Changes

It’s been a busy week here at Waikawa bay school. Tsunami warnings, swim week and a Covid alert level drop have meant there’s been a lot of change in our Kura. Over the next week we will also be saying farewell to two valued members of our team.

Today will be Belinda Mataele’s last day at Waikawa Bay School. Belinda has been an integral member of our staff since the beginning of last year. She has worked tirelessly with students and her expertise will be missed. Belinda is also in her third year of teacher training and will be concentrating fully on her studies for the rest of the year.

Next Friday will be Lydia Huntley’s last day on staff. Lydia has been a teacher aide at the school for over five years and during that time has assisted many students in various roles. She has played a major role in the development of the Senior Kapa haka group working with Kirsty Burgess and has led the Junior Kapa haka group. Like Belinda, she is also training to be a teacher and will spend more time concentrating on her studies. It is always a sad time when we farewell members of our staff but

luckily for us, both Lydia and Belinda will still be part of our school community for a while, as both have children who attend Waikawa Bay school. I have placed an advertisement in the Marlborough Express, and also in this newsletter for a Teacher Aide. If you wish to apply, please send your C.V. and covering letter to principal@wiakawabay.school.nz by Friday the 19th of March.

Keep an eye out for the Scholastic Book Club flyer that went home school bags earlier this week. We are really grateful for the support of Amy Healey who helps to administer this initiative. Last year we raised over $400 via Scholastic - so thank you to everyone who makes an order.
