The Weekly Newsletter for the Henri A. Yelle Elementary
Another Amazing Week Of Fun & Learning!
Yelle Newsletter for May 20th!
Hello from the Yelle.
Another amazing week here in #HAYNation. Our 5th Graders finished up their Science MCAS successfully, and we were able to start enjoying the weather outside. It was a really good week.
As I try to do each week, I use the big picture above to tell the story of the week in a gallery of pictures of us here at the Yelle.
The top left corner has a pair of wide photos of students outside reading and our 5th Grade students running around and on the playground for morning recess before MCAS. While this weather is upon us, we will take advantage. The top right is a picture from a video of our STEAM students having fun creating a "transporter" from a CD, water bottle cap, and balloon. The energy, excitement and fun coming from our Tech Lab could be heard all over the first floor. The big left lower picture is of students working together on a project as well as the two smaller pictures to the right of it. Right now, we are definitely into the project-based learning (PBL) portion of the year. We do PBL all year long, but right now our kids are having some great fun with their learning. The far right little picture has another student looking over his writing. Our students have learned so much and have progressed so well in every subject, but writing is definitely one they have made huge strides. And finally the right-hand corner montage is from #PositiveSignThursday, and an homage to our Celtics in that our students are also In It To Win It! They and the Celts are doing great, playing together, and hoping to finish as Champions.
The pictures above and the others from Twitter below really do relay a story of the amazing accomplishments our students and teachers have been able to achieve just this past week. Please check them out below and all over our Twitter feed to help to tell the incredible story we are writing this year.
Please check out the rest of the Newsletter for some important information including ... upcoming calendar events for most of the rest of the year including a bunch of news from the PTO and SEPAC, a parent forum, our 5th Grade Health Video from Nurse Jenny, Field Day Volunteer form, community events including the NEED Comedy Fundraiser, Summer Enrichment, and more ...

From The Desk Of Nurse Jenny: 5th Grade Health Video
Dear 5th Grade Families:
Fifth grade can be a time for various physical changes as students approach adolescence. To help students understand the physiological changes taking place during the process of growing up, an educational lesson is presented as part of the fifth grade curriculum. This lesson is usually presented at the end of May to 5th graders every year. The presentation is factual and stresses the naturalness of the changes that occur during puberty. The importance of personal hygiene, good nutrition, and the balance between exercise and rest are also stressed.
The girls and boys will be separated and shown the corresponding video. Mr. Geoghegan and Mr. Bielawa will show the boys’ video. The girls’ video will be shown by Ms. DeMelo, school nurse, and Ms. Crane, PE Health and Wellness teacher.
You may access the videos at the links provided below:
The girl version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gv21b3ZpSLg
The boy version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XF0awGRTWs
At the end of the video, questions may anonymously be written on pieces of paper by the students and answered by the instructor, which helps ease students’ anxiety. If you would like your child to opt-out of the video, please send a note to the school nurse by May 27th. The movie will be shown Friday, May 27th at the end of the day. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 508-285-0100 ext. 5320.
Thank you! Stay safe and healthy!

Parent Workshop
On Monday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the NHS auditorium, NPS, in conjunction with the Norton SEPAC and Sarah’s Village, will be hosting a parent workshop titled “Self-Care and Improved Wellbeing for Children and Parents” with Dr. Richard Booth.
This workshop will entail an in-depth examination of the multiple spheres of life impacted by stress, anxiety, and trauma, (e.g., financial, environmental, emotional, physical, behavioral, educational, occupational, and spiritual). It will also cover the physiological mechanisms of trauma and stress and how active use of coping skills can decrease stress responses in the body. Parents will develop and practice tangible skills for identification, management, coping, and supporting themselves and others.
Dr. Booth is a licensed mental health counselor with a Doctor of Philosophy in Combined Counseling/School Psychology, Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling, and Bachelor of Arts in Sociology/English. His experience includes working as a clinician at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and Wediko Children’s Services, providing counseling services through his own private practice, and working as a psychotherapist for Brown University.

NPS Summer Enrichment Program
Welcome to the 2022 Norton Public Schools’ Summer Enrichment Program!
We are pleased to offer a variety of opportunities for students entering grades K-6 to take part in this summer. There are four different weeks offered from Tuesday, July 5th through Thursday, July 28th. Sessions will take place Monday-Thursday, 9am-12pm (except the first week due to the July 4th holiday).
Norton Middle School will be the host site of the Summer Enrichment Program. All students may be dropped off at NMS between 8:45am-8:55am. Each morning, a parent or family representative must bring the K-4 students to be checked into NMS. Students entering Grades 5 and up do not need a parent or family representative to check them in. Attendance will be taken each day at 9:00am SHARP. Once the day begins, your child may not leave without permission. Students must stay within school boundaries and remain in registered sessions until release at the end of each day. Pick-up is expected at the conclusion of the sessions at 12:00pm at Norton Middle School.
Leaving the Summer Program: Only the people listed on the Registration Form will be allowed to pick up your child at the end of each day. Please inform the person picking up your child that a picture ID may be requested. Each child in Grades K-4 must be checked out each day.
**Also, please note that all students must be toilet trained.
Cost of the Summer Enrichment Program: $150 per week
*For this year only, arts & crafts materials fees will be waived.*

NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT PAYMENT.
