Upcoming Events & Information for Pleasantdale Families
A Note from the Principal's Office
January 6, 2019
Dear PES Families,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone found the past two weeks enjoyable and had time to make memories with family and friends. I know I sure did! My two boys and I joined my sister and her family on a Disney cruise to the Carribean where we rang in the New Year. The time with family is always special and being away at sea without internet access helped everyone disconnect. It was in this "disconnecting" that we were able to better connect with each other. It was truly the gift of time!
Did you know? The Pleasantdale PTO is a group of dedicated parents who support our school in many different ways-financial support of programs, volunteer coordination, hosting family fun activities like Welcome Back Party, as well as parent socials. In addition, the PTO provides special recognition to the staff throughout the year, including the December Sweets Table. Thank you to all the families who donated sweet treats--these were all thoroughly enjoyed by our PES staff and bus drivers. Thank you! Our PTO is funded entirely through the donation of time and money. All Pleasantdale parents are encouraged to join PTO meetings to learn more about upcoming events and ways to get involved. Please visit the PTO website (www.pleasantdalepto.com) to learn more.
- School reopens TOMORROW-January 7, 2019.
- Winter Assessments continue throughout January. MAP testing of students in grades 1-4 was completed in December and results will be sent home later this month. In January, our ELL students will take the ACCESS test. For questions about ACCESS testing please contact our ELL teachers- Mrs. Bialobrzeski and Mrs. George. Students may also take the Fountas/Pinnell assessment, FastBridge assessment, and/or Heggerty Assessment of Phonemic Awareness. Assessments vary by grade level and skill level. Please contact your child's teacher if you have questions about the assessments your child will be taking.
- Parent Book Club is starting this month. Get your copy of Carol Dweck's Mindset and plan to join me for our first session on Wednesday, January 23rd at 7pm in the PES library. This informal book club will focus on chapters 1-3. Parents are encouraged, but not required, to read these chapters prior to our meeting. All parents are welcome to join us in learning more about mindsets and how one's mindsets impact one's learning. Please RSVP to Terry Maly in the PES front office if you are able to join us.
- Snow gear is required for students to play in the snow. This includes snow pants and boots, along with a coat, hat, and mittens. Students without boots and snow pants will be limited to areas of the blacktop and playground without snow. If you need assistance getting snow pants and/or snow boots for your child(ren) please contact me, or Mrs. Dassinger, Social Worker, for assistance. We will be happy to help you.
- Labels help identify a child's belongings when they end up in Lost and Found. Please make sure to label snow gear, shoes, hoodies, etc. We have a growing collection of water bottles, hats, gloves, hoodies, and much more. Please remind your child to check lost and found for their things.
For our students,
Ms. Tomei
