Espero que todos hayan tenido una buena semana. Hemos tenido una semana ocupada ya que hemos estado planeando nuestro próximo ciclo de intervenciones estudiantiles que comenzará la próxima semana. Quiero dar un gran agradecimiento a nuestro equipo de Intervención (Especialista en Matemáticas Carolyn Stone y Especialistas en Lectura Denesyn Figueroa ) Renee Vineyard Stahl por organizar nuestro sistema de intervención integral este año diseñado para brindar apoyo a cada estudiante en sus áreas de mayor necesidad. Este equipo de intervención se reunió con cada equipo de nivel de grado la semana pasada para planificar intervenciones para el próximo ciclo de seis semanas. La próxima semana, los estudiantes en los grados 2-5 tomarán las evaluaciones MAP de invierno en lectura y los estudiantes en los grados Kinder y primer grado tomarán evaluaciones de fonética (DIBELS para inglés e IDEL para español) y esto nos dará buena información sobre el progreso de cada estudiante. está haciendo. Como saben, este mes estamos enfocados en el tema de la perseverancia y ha sido inspirador ver el esfuerzo y la resistencia que muestran nuestros estudiantes. ¡Hemos tenido un buen comienzo para 2023!

Dear Families,

I hope you all have had a good week. We have had a busy week as we have been planning our next cycle of student interventions that will begin next week. I want to give a big shout out to our Intervention Team (Math Specialist Carolyn Stone and Reading Specialists Denesyn Figueroa and Rene Vineyard Stahl) for organizing our comprehensive intervention system this year designed to provide support to each student in their highest areas of need. This intervention team met with each grade level team this past week planning interventions for the next six week cycle. Next week students in grades 2-5 will be taking Winter MAP assessments in Reading and students in grades Kinder and First grade will be taking phonics assessments (DIBELS for English and IDEL for Spanish) and this will give us good information on the progress each student is making. As you know, we are focused this month on the theme of perseverance and it has been inspiring to see the effort and endurance shown by our students. We have had a good start to 2023!

Dear James John Families,

Our district values your feedback! Starting January 23rd, our school’s annual Successful School Survey window will be opening and will be provided in your heritage language. During that time we will be asking you to take a brief survey to tell us about your experience with the Portland Public School District and our school, James John Elementary.

To ensure we continue to provide high quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career, we need your feedback. We want to know what you think.

The survey will begin on January 23rd, 2023 and will close on Febuaray 28th, 2023. You will be able to take the survey online at home, or you can visit our school and take the survey at our on site computer hub. More information to come!

Hello to all! I am Hayley Berra and I am the new Social Worker at James John. I am new to Portland--I moved down here from Seattle and I am very excited to be a part of this community. My work has always been focused around family stability and community building; this is the foundation of success. Please join us Thursday 1/19 from 6:00-7:30 for our first PTA Meeting of 2023! Lale Santelices, from PBOT- Safe Routes to School, will be joining us to share the bigger vision of Safe Routes to School and any planned improvements that are happening in our neighborhood. If you have any concerns about a route this would be a great time to have your questions answered.

A representative from Grow will also be speaking and giving us an update on how the program has been working at the school and what your students have been learning in the garden!

Dinner, Childcare and Interpretation will be provided. We hope to see you there!
