Fourth Grade News
For the week of November 21, 2016
This Week's Focus:
Reading - We will enjoy a read aloud of The Story of Fish & Snail as we track for theme and identify examples of symbolism. Students will continue to polish their reading responses as they discuss and "blog" about what they "notice" and "wonder" about. We will also continue to add new vocabulary to our word wall as we research new words from the text.
Writing - This week we will complete our review of paragraph writing / mechanics. The students will also have an opportunity to choose from a variety of imaginative writing prompts, including "Imagine you are a pilgrim at the first Thanksgiving. Describe your experience."
Math - We will continue to work on solving multiplication problems using the standard algorithm, as well as solving multi-step multiplication word problems.
Social Studies - We will identify the different states / capitals in the Southeastern region. Students will bring their lists and maps home to begin studying. Our test will not be for a few weeks, but we have discussed the benefits of practicing these facts at home throughout the entire unit.
Science - Students will begin to explore natural disasters and start a research project where they will create a slide show presentation about their natural disaster (floods, tsunamis, tornados, hurricanes, wildfires, volcanic eruptions, etc...).
