Walker Elementary
Parent Newsletter for March 7-11, 2022
Dear Walker Families,
Governor Asa Hutchinson has proclaimed the week of March 7-11, 2022, as G.U.I.D.E. for Life Week in Arkansas to celebrate the importance of social-emotional learning. The Governor encourages all citizens of Arkansas to recognize and celebrate the significance of social-emotional learning to enrich our children’s futures as it improves academic outcomes, builds a positive school climate, and provides children with the necessary skills to excel in today’s workforce.
Student-Led Conferences are next week. Our Wildcats are ready to share with parents the work that they have been doing. The book fair will also be open on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Please let your child's teacher know or call the school office if you need to reschedule your child's conference time.
March is National Reading Month! The Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has a RISE Reading Challenge for all students in Arkansas. This challenge begins on March 1st and lasts for all of March. This challenge will be in the March edition of the RISE monthly newsletter from DESE and can also be found in the image below. We hope you will help your child join in on this challenge! Happy reading!

- Morning Routines: Car line Drop Off is between 7:15 and 7:45: Students cannot be dropped off at school before 7:15. Adult supervision begins at 7:15, and students cannot be unattended before adults are on duty. If your child arrives after 7:45 am, they need to be signed in to the office by a parent or guardian. You can scan the QR code on your car tag to do this; however, we ask that you still walk them to the front door. If students come up to the door by themselves and if no one is in the office, they are locked out. Thank you for helping us ensure the safety of all our Wildcats! All students can get a free breakfast from 7:15-7:45 in our cafeteria. Morning Choir Practice is at 7:15 on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so the car line may be a bit more crowded at that time on those dates. Thank you for your understanding!
- Dismissal: School dismisses at 3:00pm. If your child has a doctor's appointment and needs to be checked out early, we ask that you please bring a doctor's note to excuse his absence. We don't allow check-outs after 2:30pm. Please plan accordingly. If you need to make changes on the way your child goes home, please call the office and make changes before 2:30pm
- Car Line: Please remain in your car at all times in the car rider line. Students have worked very hard on becoming independent workers and learners this year, and helping them be independent in getting out of the car keeps everything running smoothly. The driveways and roads cannot be blocked when out on 40th Street in the car line, per Springdale Police Department.
- PTA: Did you know that you can support our PTA with your Amazon purchases and/or by purchasing a membership to our local Sam's Club? More information is linked below.
- Are you or someone you know looking for a job? We are looking for substitute teachers and bus drivers for the 2021-22 school year! If you are interested, please reach out to Mrs. Ryan or our district website for more information!
- Lost and Found: We already have a very large collection of items that are in our lost and found. Please make sure you have the student's name clearly marked on tags or inside a garment that may be removed throughout the day (coats/jackets, hoodies, etc.).
Our job is to serve your child and your family! Please let us know if you have questions or need help.
Thank you for your partnership,
Mrs. Lynn Ryan, Principal, lryan@sdale.org
Mrs. Carrie Farris, Assistant Principal, cfarris@sdale.org
G.U.I.D.E for Life in Arkanas
Try one of these conversation-starters:
- Tell me about the best part of your day.
- What was the hardest thing you had to do today?
- Did any of your classmates do anything funny?
- Tell me about what you read in class.
- Who did you play with today? ...
- Do you think math [or any subject] is too easy or too hard?
The G.U.I.D.E. for Life program, with the support of Arkansas counselors and educators, is designed to give K-12 students a plan – a five-step process – that they can follow to achieve personal success. Each principle is summarized in easy-to-understand keywords, with three action points to explain the idea. By incorporating the G.U.I.D.E. for Life concepts throughout the school experience, we can help instill these “real-world” skills for success in all Arkansas students. The result? Well-rounded citizens, stronger communities, and more effective employees. Click on the link below to watch the introduction video from the Department of Education. GUIDE LINK
