A MESSAGE FROM MR. RYAN
In reflecting upon our last couple of data days, we've identified a trend among our students. We have noticed students are struggling, at times, with their ability to sustain prolonged academic effort at school. These academic and behavioral struggles are not unique to our school as similar trends are noted across the district, state, country, and even globally as students return to full time in-person instruction.
Some ideas for helping our students increase their mental and physical endurance at school include focusing on healthy routines at home. A renewed emphasis on bedtimes, healthy food choices, exercise, and reduced screen time could help all of us get back into the swing of things. Thanks in advance for your support!
Cognia School Improvement Surveys
- As I have previously shared, each school year, our schools give students (3-12) and parents/guardians an opportunity to provide feedback through the completion of school improvement focused surveys. The information gained from these anonymous surveys help to guide our building and district in selecting specific focus areas each year.
- Earlier this school year you were asked to complete a "Fall Survey." It is time for our second round of surveys which will allow us to do some comparison between fall and spring responses.
- Our spring survey can be accessed below. Thank you in advance for providing us with feedback on our building and district.

ONE SCHOOL, ONE BOOK
One School, One Book is taking place in a different fashion this year. Students will not be receiving a copy of the book. Rather, classrooms will be listening to the book as a read aloud. The One School, One Book committee has planned a great few weeks of literacy fun that will be taking place within our classrooms. This year's book is titled The Adventures of a South Pole Pig. The PV reading team has provided some additional information below.
Have your child tell you all about the book, The Adventures of a South Pole Pig, that’s being read in every classroom in our school. Flora, the pig, craves going on an adventure. She spots a team of sled dogs and decides she wants to become one. There are lots of twists and turns in this fun novel that I’m sure your child will enjoy. We will have a daily trivia question and the winner will get to choose a book and get a little toy pig. You can support literacy at home, by discussing the book and encouraging your child to read, it really does make a difference.
If your child misses school he/she can listen to a recording on this link,
READING ROOM NEWS
The reading nook is set up in Mrs. McGregory's room. As we know, reading opens a rainbow of possibilities! The second and third grade students who work with Mrs. McGreagory get to enjoy sitting in the nook while she reads to them and kindergarten and first grade students get the opportunity to sit in the nook while completing work. The nook was designed and built by Kim and Dave Kurtz and is meant to give the students positive and relaxing feelings about reading. This is important since some students who struggle with reading at times can have negative feelings about this important life skill. The nook was paid for by Bob and Jeanette Wright and State Farm. Mrs. McGregory and Prairie View are blessed to have these families helping the reading room.
