New Media Center & Library Teacher
Hello, my name is Mr. Carlson and I am the new library teacher at Mississippi. I have been a teacher for 28 years and most of that time has been in a library setting. Students and staff at Mississippi have been very welcoming and I look forward to instilling a love of reading with all of our students while also incorporating technology!
We have a brand new library and student feedback has been very positive. All 1st-5th grade students are checking out great books and magazines this week and Kindergarten will be doing the same in the next couple of weeks.
Starting next week, I will be sending notices to all families from our Destiny circulation system the day before students have library class each week. This notice will allow you to see how many books your child has checked out, due dates and if any books are overdue. If books or magazines are overdue/late, these books should be returned or renewed the next day. Students have 14 days before a book is considered overdue/late.
I am looking forward to a great year with our students. Please reach out anytime via email or a phone call if you have any questions.

Health Office News
Please send an extra pair of pants and underwear for your child just in case there is a bathroom accident. The health office also loves donations of gently used sweatpants and leggings sizes 5-10. We also appreciate new packs of underwear for boys and girls sizes 5-10.
The health office has free at home covid tests. Email Katie.Puchalla@ahschools.us and we can send them home with your child.
Wondering if your child is well enough to come to school? Please see the document linked below.
If your child goes to the doctor or dentist please request a doctors note and send it with your child for attendance purposes.
Volunteering is a great way to get involved in your child's education. Studies show that students whose parents stay involved in school have better behavior, get better grades, demonstrated better social skills and adapt better to school. Please see the graphic below for more information regarding becoming a volunteer at Mississippi Elementary. Please reach out to Jackie Cimenski with any questions or visit the district website.
Jackie Cimneski - Volunteer Service Coordinator
Please remember to practice your lunch codes with your kiddos. This will make the lines go quicker, especially the first couple weeks of school. If they need a practice sheet sent home, please contact your child's teacher. Your student's lunch code is the same as their student ID number. You can view this online when you log into your district account in My Student Info. Thank you for your help!
