Second quarter elementary report cards will be available after 4:00 pm on Friday, January 11, 2019.

To access your child’s progress report card:

  • Login to PowerSchool (using your parent login or your child’s login) - This is the same login process your child uses consistently at school and/or e-day login process
  • Click on the Report Card link located in the left-hand menu.

If you have forgotten how to login to PowerSchool, your child can assist with this as it is identical to their daily login in information. (All current and future student progress reports are stored in this location, so you are able to access/view your child’s report cards in one location.)

Let’s Play! BME Family STEM Night!

January 23, 2019 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Plans are coming together for the first ever BME Cardboard Challenge STEM Night! Inspired by the annual Global Cardboard Challenge that takes place in October each year, our January Family STEM Activity is a Cardboard Challenge. Families are encouraged to get inspired and creative together. Turn the leftover cardboard and recyclable materials from the holidays into games and interactive activities. We will display and play the Family STEM projects in the gym on STEM Night. Teachers are also planning other interactive stations for the whole family to enjoy including a building station. You can come with or without a project, but please RSVP via this Registration Link. We want to be able to plan for enough space, materials, and volunteers for the evening. Looking for inspiration? Search for the Cardboard Challenge online or take time to watch one of these videos as a family! Caine’s Arcade (10 min. film), Caine’s Arcade 2: From a Movie to a Movement (8 min.), or Caine’s Arcade News Clip (2 min.). We are also collecting boxes (cereal, shoe, soda, etc.) and empty paper towel and toilet paper tubes. Please send them to school to help us collect supplies for our event!

Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT)

The OLSAT is administered to all students in grades 1 and new 2nd grade students this month. This test is given orally January 22-24 depending on the teacher’s schedule. This assessment is used specifically to measure abilities related to success in school, testing critical thinking and reasoning skills. The OLSAT is intended to test memory, speed of thought and ability to see relationships and patterns. Scores are normed based upon a child’s age in months rather than grade level in school and will be posted on each child’s Power School account after scoring has been completed. For more information please contact your child’s school counselor.

Volunteers and Visitor Background Checks

We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.

Examples include:

  • Field Trip Chaperones
  • Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
  • Tutors
  • Volunteer Coaches
  • Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
  • Library Helpers
  • After Prom Workers
  • Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
  • Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales

During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee* for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. The link to apply for the full background check can be accessed on the Volunteers/BRAVO link on the ZCS main webpage. For more information, contact the Volunteer/BRAVO Coordinator.

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.

Examples Include:

  • Lunch Guests
  • Classroom Guest Speakers
  • Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences

We ask that all visitors schedule an appointment to meet with teachers, counselors, administrators and all other staff members so that we may best serve everyone. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.

*ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.
