Counselor Message

Wernli Families,

We can't believe just how fast this second semester is going. We have enjoyed being in the classrooms with the students and we can't help to think just how incredibly lucky we are to work with all of our wildcats daily. We look forward to all the wonderful things we have in the upcoming months. As always, we thank you for your continued support.

Ms. Garza & Mrs. Breda

What's Happening In Guidance?

During the month of February we had some wonderful discussions on topics such as kindness, diversity, and inclusion.

During the month of March, we will continue classroom lessons focusing on conflict resolution, respect, and accepting who we are.

While discussing conflict resolution, we are practicing using I-statements in order to communicate effectively and respectfully within all relationships. The more students practice this skill, the easier it is for them to use in moments where they are having big emotions. Below is an example of an I-statement and a link with more information about the importance of this type of communication skill. Please practice using this at home to help develop all of our students into strong communicators!

Middle School Transition

Middle school transition is a very exciting time for our fifth graders! They are about to close one chapter of their educational career and embark on a new one. This transition brings on excitement as well as many questions. That is why our feeder middle school hosts their annual 6th grade transition camp.

Students zoned for Bernal will be given transition camp info soon. I am waiting for the Bernal M.S. counselors to share that information with me, so that I can share that with our students. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. I appreciate your support!

Ms. Garza

Coming Up

Purple Up Day

April 20th will be our campus wide Purple Up Day. “Purple Up! For Military Kids” is a day for communities to wear purple to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices. Please be sure to wear purple to show your support!

We will be holding a Wernli Purple Up Day event where our Wernli military community members come and share with our students about their careers (past or present) in the military. If you are interested in being a presenter for our Wernli Purple Up Day event on April 20th from 8:00-10:00, please fill out the following form.

Please contact Sara Breda with any questions: sara.breda@nisd.net

Gaming Safely

During the holidays students spend more time at home with family and friends. This time also allows students to have more flexibility on their gaming devices. Please take a moment to read over some tips on taking an active interest in the games our children our playing.
