The Burruss Blast

A Message from the Principal

Dear Burruss Families,

I hope you all have had a great week of Winter Break. And if you spent your time in Marietta like I did, I hope you were able to stay warm and dry! What a wet wintery week we have had here! I'm looking forward to having staff and students back in the building tomorrow! I sure have missed you all.

As we look ahead, we have five weeks of school before Spring Break. Students have a three-day weekend on March 11 when teachers and staff report for a Professional Learning Day. In grades 3-5, students have started spiral reviews to prepare for the Georgia Milestones test, which starts April 17 for students in grades 3 and 5. Detailed testing schedules will be shared soon. Students in grades K-2 are growing so much! We believe in growing the whole child, focusing on small group instruction and supporting students' social and emotional growth as well.

Please reach out to me or to my assistant principal, Mrs. Hartley-Lewis, if we can ever be of assistance!

Warm regards,

Dr. Jillian Johnson

We are enjoying a new dismissal process this year that is safer and more organized than ever before! If you have a dismissal change, please communicate that change with your child's teacher as well as with the front office staff. Teachers will not accept transportation changes during the school day. All midday changes must be made through the front office before 2:30pm.

If your child does not live within walking distance to the school, please plan to pick up your child in the carpool line. We do require you to show your child's QR code, which can be given by the front office and shown either on paper or on your cell phone. Our carpool line is very efficient and we finish the process by 3:25 on most days.

Transportation changes that ask for your child to be a walker toward Lee's Crossing or toward Kimberly Way may not be granted if you do not live in those communities. Student safety is our top priority.

Family Survey on Burruss Climate

Linked below is a survey from the State of Georgia that is sent to families at all schools. These survey results strongly influence the Climate Star rating given to schools each year. Burruss has celebrated a 5-star rating for the past two years!
