Message from Dr. Frischkorn

Good Evening Mayfield!

Happy Labor Day Weekend! I hope that everyone has an opportunity to relax and rejuvenate over the four-day weekend. Students and staff will have Friday, September 3rd, and Monday, September 6th off of school. Students will return to school on Tuesday.

Did you know that Labor Day was first celebrated in 1882 and became a federal holiday in 1894. The intent for Labor Day is to celebrate and show appreciation for the labor of working. Our community is filled with many exceptional workers who put a lot of time, effort and sweat into their work. Our school is filled with some amazing workers as well. Especially in today's society, where finding highly qualified workers has been difficult for many organizations, Mayfield and Manassas City Public School's continues to be a great place to work. We currently have openings in several schools, and we are always looking for amazing substitute teachers. If you are interested in filling out an application or talking to me about some of our school division's amazing opportunities, take a moment to look at our employment opportunity page.

Love Your Laptop!

Our students and staff are fortunate to have access to so much technology that helps enhance the educational opportunities for our students. Mayfield Intermediate and Manassas City Public Schools were well equipped with technology before March 2020, which helped us navigate the pandemic and continues to help us.

Our goal now is to continue to take care of the technology that we put into the hands of every staff member and student. It is essential that students love their laptops and treat their laptops with respect.

Here are some suggestions that we want students to practice regularly:

  1. Please bring your laptop home and remember to bring it back to school every day
  2. Make sure that your laptop is fully charged before the start of the school day.
  3. Shut down and restart your computer weekly to ensure that your laptop is up-to-date with the latest updates.
  4. Quickly report any issues that you are having with your laptop so that our technology specialist can quickly support you and get your laptop running at peak performance levels.
  5. Carry your laptop in the protective carrying case that the school supplied to you a the beginning of the year.

Gifted and Talented Referrals

Manassas City Public Schools are committed to supporting and enhancing educational opportunities for all students. Our school division is looking for input from families on identifying students who show characteristics of being gifted and talented. Our Gifted and Talented Supervisor, Anthony Vargas, is looking for referrals. The best way to build our opportunities for students is to refer them and let our Gifted and Talented teachers review the child's record and work with the child to see if they qualify for the Gifted and Talented Program. If you believe that your child would benefit from going through the Gifted and Talented program, please complete the MCPS FT Referral below.

Fall Growth Assessment

Students will be participating in a Fall Growth Assessment created by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and will be administered between September 13-24. These assessments will help educators at the school determine the needed instructional supports that each student requires. Please read the attached letter from Dr. Goldzung, Director of Assessment and Accountability for Manassas City Public Schools. The letter is translated into Spanish as well.

School Lunch Menus

Our cafeteria staff has been doing an excellent job providing our students with nourishing breakfasts and lunches daily. All students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch throughout this school year. Attached you will find the lunch menus for September.
