Spring Conferences

Burnside Elementary Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Thursday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 14th. We are once again using an online sign up for conferences called PTCFast.com. We are hopeful this system will allow you to better choose a time that meets your needs. To sign up, click on the link below or copy and paste it into your web browser. Simply follow the prompts to register and choose a conference time. Conferences will be held in-person, though online conferences are available for those who prefer them. Please contact your child's teacher directly if you are interested in that option.

***Per district procedure, we have one 15-minute conference time available per student. It is imperative that parents/caregivers who are connected to the student are receiving the same information and planning together, as a team, how to best support the student. Please contact the Burnside office at 651-385- 4700, if you have any difficulty signing up for a time.

Thank you!

Every year in March we celebrate the services AmeriCorps members provide to our country. National AmeriCorps Week is March 12th-18th! At Burnside, Casey Starr, Ruth Misinko, and Christy Barker are our AmeriCorps members -- and the work they do to support our teachers is STELLAR!

APEX Fun Run!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our spring fundraiser! Because of the generosity of our Burnside community, we raised just over $20,000 for our Innovative Learning Fund. This fund helps pay for things like field trips, special events, unique classroom activities or supplies, and more. In this case, it will help us purchase a ceramics kiln for our art program.

Students had a blast participating in the Fun Run event, and enjoyed the daily motivational lessons from the Fun Run team as well. A special thank you goes out to all of the volunteers who helped with the event. We appreciate it!

Sunnyside Kindergarten Registration Information

Help spread the word! Now’s the time to start thinking about registering your child for kindergarten! Registration for the 2023 - 2024 school year kicked off with an in-person kindergarten registration help session on Thursday, Feb. 9. If you missed the session, don't worry! Enrollment forms are now available in print at the District Office, Burnside Elementary, Colvill Family Center, and Sunnyside School. Forms can also be found online at www.rwps.org, and may be returned to any of the locations listed above. We encourage you to register early, as this helps us determine staffing needs and get class placement information out earlier!

Third Quarter Progress Reports

The third quarter of the school year will come to a close on Thursday, March 23rd.

Burnside teachers will complete the informal progress reports to discuss with families at conferences next week. Official report cards are only completed at the end of Semester 1 and Semester 2, so a less formal progress report will be provided this quarter. Specials (Art, Music, PE, & STEM) are only graded at the semesters, since they only meet with students one out of every four days.

Yearbook Order Form

Order the 2022-2023 Elementary Yearbook by clicking on the following link.

Paper order forms will also be sent home with students this week.

Lost and Found

Burnside's lost & found is filling up quickly again! With conferences and concerts coming up, this is a great time to take a swing by our lost & found off the lobby in A-wing to see if you recognize any of your child's missing clothing.

Student Art Show

The Red Wing Student Art Show will take place at Red Wing Arts in the train depot (418 Levee Street) from March 3 - April 1, 2023. Red Wing Arts has proudly presented the Student Art Show for the past 30 years. This special exhibition showcases a wide variety of artworks by K-12 students, including some of our very own Sunnyside students. Please join them in celebrating their creativity!

Additional information can be found via the links provided below.

The Depot Gallery is located behind the YMCA, alongside the Mississippi River. It is run by the Red Wing Arts Association. Everyone is welcome to come view the amazing artwork that these students have been working on.

February Winger Pride Winners

On Thursday, March 2, Burnside announced our February Winger Pride winners. Students receive Winger Pride tickets when staff catches them working hard to be safe, kind, and/or responsible, and their ticket stubs are placed in grade level buckets in the office. At the end of each month, we draw winners from each grade level, each of whom gets to pick a prize from the prize menu.

February grade level Winger Pride winners are:

  • Third Grade: Temperance Smythurst, Quinley Beyers, Rosalie Imholte, Haevyn Malcom
