PMES SuperHawk Walk 2015

Information about this year's main fundraiser is now available. This event occurs on October 16th for grades 3-5. Every child gets to participate regardless of the amount of funds raised. Students will be collecting donations for this event where they will walk outside in the bus lanes. Students can ask for a flat fee or get creative with their donations. Money will be used for school improvements and 10% goes directly back to your child's classroom. Donations will be collected on October 2nd and October 9th. Please see information flyers and documents attached below. These also went home in Friday Folders on September 18th. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact PTA directly at pmesptaexecutiveboard@gmail.com.

Upcoming and Continuing Units of Study

Students will continue taking a look at characters in our books and in our read aloud. We will also be looking at a few pieces of non-fiction texts to determine main idea.

Students are beginning to try their hand at turning our 'perfect paragraphs' into well-written essays. Teachers will model and assist students in writing persuasively for long periods of time.

Word Study

New spelling words were given Thursday, and the test over these words (List #20) will be given Wednesday, September 30th.

We are continuing our unit on decimals with rounding, adding, and subtracting. A new link for the decimal units Math Resource Round-Up was sent out and is linked below. Remember this is a living document and updates as we move through the unit. The test will focus on rounding, adding, and subtracting and is planned for sometime at the end of next week. Study guides will be sent home on Monday. Due to the amount of material covered in the decimals units, it was decided in the best interest of the students to break up the unit into 3-4 test grades. Therefore, the tests are closer together, but cover smaller chunks of material.

Science/Social Studies

We have started our social studies unit covering Reconstruction after the Civil War. Be on the lookout for resources in their social studies notebook/journal.
