Skills for this week

We are still working on narrative writing. Developing Introductory paragraphs using a mentor text will be our emphasis, as well as playing with similes and metaphors.
The MAP testing went well and I will be analyzing and sharing scores with students. I do not get a separate score for writing, but there are some subskills I can pull out as well as grammar and convention scores.

Class News

We will begin a school - wide incentive program involving special area and cafeteria. Individual students will be rewarded for following rules and being remarkable. I will have more information for you later this week.

Don't forget that Thursday, 9/1 we dismiss at 12:00. Lunch will be available. i will need to know if your child is eating because I have to order it on Wednesday.

Thanks to all of you who have joined our PTA. Five bucks goes a long way when it's working with others. We still have a few families that haven't joined yet, but hopefully will do so soon. In fact, I will be sending pink sheets again asking for ANY FAMILY MEMBER OR FRIEND to help us out and join. Look for these tomorrow.

Thank you, also, for selling SMART cards. These are such a practical and economical item. They pay for themselves and then some.

I am trying to set up a MakerSpace specifically involving print and publishing. If you have any scrapbook papers, stamps, ink, cards, etc I would love to have them. What I would really get excited about is if you have an old typewriter or computer that we could take apart. Maker spaces are designed to allow children to explore and "make" something. It gives them time and tools to be creative. If you have something we could use, please just email me.
