Shark Tank - A Success!
Student entrepreneurs showcased their inventions as part of an eight-week Shark Tank project sponsored by the Learning Fund Foundation, a partnership of District 103.
Close to 45 students displayed their projects and were judged this week on creativity and the uniqueness of their entrepreneurial idea, how well they showcased their invention to the judges, how thorough their pitch was presented, how they thought out the pricing of their service or goods, along with grammar, neatness, etc. The top five projects received cash prizes from the Foundation.
The following projects received the highest ratings from the judges:
Fund A+mental, conceptualized by Vedika Vellat and Arya Sathasivaharan, came in first place.
The Time Marker's Surprise, conceptualized by Aadhya Iyer and Shruthi Vasa, placed second.
The Perfect Marshmallow, conceptualized by Astha Daiya and Simran Daiya, placed third.
Just In Case, conceptualized by Vera Goryunov and Jyena Kariya, placed fourth.
Robocan, conceptualized by Maya Mappa and Lilyana Maxie, placed fifth.
Third-place winners twins Astha Daiya and Simran Daiya came up with the idea of the perfect marshmallow project because "We always burn them and we wanted a way to roast them perfectly," fourth-grader Astha said.
Before presenting their final projects to judges, the Shark Tank students learned about the invention and entrepreneurship process with coaches Rachel Chiesa and Sue Vani. LFF would like to thank its sponsors' Code Ninjas, Nexus Pharmaceuticals, and Culver's. The Learning Fund Foundation is an independent, collaborative, not-for-profit organization, led by a volunteer Board, to raise additional financial resources for School District 103 and serve as a catalyst for innovation, enrichment and educational excellence.

PTO Partnership
Navigating Sibling Rivalry
Dr. Siggie (Cohen) is back to discuss how parents can help navigate sibling rivalry and build better relationships through increased connection.
The D103 Parent Education team, in partnership with the Vernon Area Public Library, is excited to bring back Dr. Siggie, a child development specialist and parenting expert, to help us better understand sibling dynamics. Dr. Siggie will teach parents how to mediate arguments without taking sides. She will provide parents with practical tips that will help our children use these first relationships as a way to negotiate, emotionally regulate, and compromise, providing our children with important life skills that will help them navigate other important future relationships in their lives.
If you have a specific question you would like Dr. Siggie to address please fill out our anonymous questionnaire no later than Jan. 22.

Volunteers Needed
D103 PTO is thrilled to announce that we will be hosting our first ever Half Day Fun Fair on Friday, Jan. 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.! In order to make this event a smashing success, we are in need of a large number of parent volunteers. There are a wide variety of opportunities to get everyone involved at every skill level. From setting up and running the games to helping with decorating or handing out snacks, you're sure to find something to assist with. But that’s not all, if you have a special skill or unique idea that you would like to contribute to the fun fair, please send an email to hd@d103pto.org.
If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up early as spaces will fill quickly.
