Commencement ~

In preparation for Commencement, the Hispanic Parent Council gathered to celebrate the successes of the year, as well as, put together gift bags for the 44 Hispanic/Latino graduating seniors. Included was a sarape sash that the students were invited to wear as a part of their cap and gown regalia. We are so proud of all of the graduating seniors and wish them well as they embark on their new academic, personal and professional journeys as Albuquerque Academy Alumni.

Community Day ~

After a two year absence, Albuquerque Academy’s Community Day was back this past Spring and it was a huge success! The Hispanic Parent Council was thrilled to participate and engage with students, faculty, staff and other community members. We offered homemade Horchata, Churros and engaged students with identifying their heritage on a world map. We also had some DJ music representing our various Hispanic/Latino genres. Thank you to all the HPC members who donated items and volunteered for the day to make our table a beautiful representation of our diverse culture.

Multicultural Summer Honors Program ~

In February, some of our HPC members volunteered to help score applications for Albuquerque Academy’s Multicultural Summer Honors Program. Albuquerque Academy's Multicultural Summer Honors Program is a six-week summer program for academically talented and motivated African American, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino and Native American students in the third and fourth grades. Up to 100 students are selected for this scholarship program that fosters a joy of learning and an appreciation for other cultures. Summer Honors scholarship recipients are introduced to Albuquerque Academy through academically challenging courses that not only encourage critical thinking and problem-solving strategies, but also enhance and refine each student's proficiency in core subjects. The applications were strong and the scoring decisions were tough, but once again, we thank our HPC members for giving back to our amazing school!

Volunteering in the Classroom ~

There are so many ways to get involved and serve as a volunteer for the Academy school community. One way is to share your professional expertise in the classroom setting. Trial Attorney and HPC member, Ron Archibeque, coached and prepared students for their Mock Trial in Mr. Herrin's 7th grade class. Ron also served as the Judge in the Mock Trial as all the 7th grade students reenacted the story of Kit Carson. Career Day (in March) is another opportunity for HPC members to volunteer for and share their professional expertise.
