First Day Procedures for 6th Graders
Welcome to Margaret Brent Middle School!! The procedure for 6th grade students for the first day of school is as follows:
Staff and administration will remove all 6th grade students from the buses and escort them to the cafeteria before dismissing the 7th and 8th graders from the bus. Once in the cafeteria, 6th grade students will again be introduced to their assistant principal, Mr. Peeler, and their counselor, Ms. Towne, and all of the classroom teachers. At that time, each homeroom teacher will call out the names of the students in their homeroom and escort them to the classrooms. Students will be assigned lockers , if needed, open and organize lockers and begin learning middle school procedures and expectations.
Parent Drop Off and Pick Up
Enter the parking lot, make the immediate right and proceed through the parking next to the basketball courts/tennis courts and circle around to form a line next to the red brick Park and Rec building. The line will then move along the curb up to the front entrance doors. Upon arrival, students should exit their cars on the curb side of the vehicle for safety purposes. Students will wait at the flag poles until 7:45 when the bell rings signaling the start of the school day. A staff member will be on duty beginning at 7:40 to receive students. If you choose to have your child wait in your car until the 7:45 bell, you will need to park in a parking spot so you do not impede the flow of the drop off line. Please note that if you choose to park you will need to escort your child to the sidewalk to ensure his/her safety as cars will be moving at that time. Students arriving any time after 8:00 will require a parent/guardian to sign them into the front office. Please be aware that the parking lot is small and teachers are trying to park and parents who are dropping off students are coming in and out of the lot all at the same time. Traffic is a huge problem getting into and out of the parking lot onto Rt. 5. Please be patient and kind to each other as people are trying to drop off students and attempting to get to where we all need to be safely and on time.
Afternoon Pick Up Procedures:
Enter the parking lot, make the immediate right and proceed through the parking next to the basketball courts/tennis courts the tennis courts and circle around to form a line next to the red brick Park and Rec building. The line will then move along the curb up to the cafeteria entrance doors. Students will be called to the cafeteria at 2:40 where a staff member will check their name off of the pick up list and direct them to wait with another staff member on the sidewalk. Once the student's car is along the curb/sidewalk, students will be permitted to walk to their car. It will take a few days for staff members to become familiar with students and their parents/guardians so please be patient so we can ensure your child's safety.
