Kindergarten Orientation Days - Two parts - May 16th (Evening), 17th and 18th (Appointments)
Part 1 - The evening event (May 16th - 6:00 - 7:15 pm.) for all incoming Kindergarten students, their parents and Southwood siblings. This event consists of a big welcome in the gym, followed by a series of activities including a bus ride, time in the classroom, playtime on the play structure (weather dependent) and a school tour.
Part 2 - Day Time appointments (May 17th and 18th) for incoming K students and their parents. These appointments are scheduled by our office in 30 - 45 minute slots for small groups of parents and their K aged children. Our incoming Kindergarteners spend some time in the library at different activities (a short version of a typical Kindergarten day). Parents meet with school admin and support personnel to hear some information about the Kindergarten program at Southwood School

Order your gift cards for Sunshine Greenhouse and Chinos Bistro today! Pick up on time for Mother's Day. Proceeds go to Southwood Playground Upgrades.
Parent Parking and Student Pick Up reminders...
Parking near and around our school:
Obey the “loading zone only” areas of our streets that are marked out by yellow paint on the curbs. Parking is available behind the cross walk on 3rd street and past Barkman Ave. It is best to park on 3rd and 2nd streets, further down Barkman Avenue, or in the overflow parking available to us from the Grace Church. It is not safe or legal to drop off or pick up your student in the in the middle of the intersections, the crosswalk or by the stop signs.
DO NOT park, pick up or drop off your students in the bus lane or in the staff parking lot.
Double parking on Barkman Ave. or on 3rd Street poses a serious risk for everyone.
Want some Southwood School shirts, jackets, etc? Lots of selection... quick delivery.
Gardening Opportunity at Southwood
It looks like Spring will finally arrive, fingers crossed. We are excited to get out into our outdoor learning space, particularly our garden beds. Several of our classes have started plants and are getting ready to fill our garden boxes. We are hoping to partner with our families and parents for the summer to help us keep them growing and productive during the summer months when students and teachers are on vacation.
If you would like the opportunity to try out your green thumb and help weed and water Southwood's garden beds this summer, please contact your child's teacher or the office and express your interest.
Grade 4 Farewell -- June 28th -- Save the date -- Morning Assembly for parents
Transition for Grade 4 Students to Grade 5 (2023/2024)
In May and June students will visit the middle schools and meet some of the Grade 5 teachers and Middle School staff.
Our team also meets with the middle school team to provide them with information that we know will help these transitions go as smoothly as possible.
