Rockingham Early College High School
Rockingham Early College High School instructor Valencia Abbott was recently elected by educators from across the state of North Carolina to serve on the North Carolina Council for the Social Studies (NCCSS) Board. Mrs. Abbott will represent Rockingham County on this board from 2023 to 2026! Congratulations Mrs. Abbott!
Mrs. Abbott has spent almost 20 years in the classroom. She completed a Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in African American Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In 2016 she received her Add-On Licensure Academically/Intellectually Gifted (AIG) from Duke University and spent the last ten years at RECHS. Valencia has served on several advisory boards and committees, including the NCSS Carter G. Woodson Book Award Selection Committee and the National Council of History Education Teacher Advisory Council. She was recently appointed to the George Washington Teacher Institute Advisory Group. In 2022 she was the recipient of the James Arthur Griggs Civil Rights Memorial Award for her accomplishments in the area of Keeping Dr. King's Dream Alive in Reidsville and the Outstanding Teacher of North Carolina History from the North Carolina Historical Society. Valencia spearheads the acclaimed "Civil Rights Movement Beyond 1968: Griggs vs. Duke Power Company", which tells the history of the 1971 United States Supreme Court case.
RECHS Alumni Annabel Hayes and current NHS members came together to complete a service project. The students weaved together plastic bags to make mats for the homeless population in Greenville, North Carolina! These mats will be a great alternative!
We are so proud of over twenty RECHS students that participated and won second place in the HotBotz Competition in Pembroke this past Saturday! The Hotbotz team advanced to the State competition at East Carolina University!
RECHS Prom Tickets are on sale now! We look forward to seeing our students on the Red Carpet!
On Tuesday March 21st, PTO of the Griffins helped to celebrate all students at RECHS for National Teens Day! Each student received a blow pop from our parents. Thank you PTO for your continued support!
Rockingham County High School
RCHS student Will Attaway (Mrs. Attaway's son) was accepted to attend Governors’ School this summer! He was given one of very few available spots for the county! This was a great honor and we are proud of Will!
Mrs. Belchers class at RCHS is currently in the midst of First Aid Procedures, which consists of packing open wounds, administering blood loss prevention with the use of tourniquets, the proper use of EpiPens and ensuring their own safety utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE)!
Rockingham County Middle School
Congratulations to the Advanced Band of RCMS for receiving a Superior Rating at the annual Festival of Music held at Carowinds each year. This is the highest rating possible! The band received a superior rating in 20 out of 21 categories. Way to go, Jaguar Band!
Congratulations to the RCMS Battle of the Books team for coming in fourth place in Region 5 out of 13 teams! The competition was held on Saturday, March 25 in Winston-Salem!
RCMS choral students, led by Dr. Elaine Smith, their teacher and conductor, performed to a full house on March 2 for their Pop concert! Bravo to all of them for the time and energy they gave to accomplish such a feat. Bravo to their fantastic accompanist, Mr. Baker Lawrimore! We are so blessed to have Dr. Smith on staff at RCMS! Congratulations to all of the students for an enjoyable night of music!
The Jaguar Wrestling team celebrated their championship season with a pizza banquet at Fursty's pizza! Congratulations to the Jags for a great season!
In Ms. Whicker's FAC class, bears were taken out of hibernation this week and students will learn how to hand sew!
Students in Ms. Porter's ELA class are reviewing vocabulary words by playing Vocabulary Charades!
Reidsville High School
On March 14th, Reidsville High School’s Ninth Grade Academy partnered with NextGen of Rockingham County to host its first guest speaker, Will Pettiford, an entrepreneur of Back Yard Flames N.C.! Thanks to Mr. Pettifford for coming to inspire our students!
Reidsville High School’s FCA hosted a dodgeball tournament! We had lots of fun! Thanks to students and staff that were involved and congrats to the winners!
RHS hosted a career fair for the juniors and seniors! Jerome Simpson from JSimpso's Custom Apparel even showed Ms. Blackwell how to use the heat press! Thanks to everyone for coming out!
As Reidsville High’s Esports team heads into the Spring Break of its season, the Rams are currently sitting in the following positions for Rocket League, Fortnite Solos, and Fortnite Duos.
Rocket League - Reidsville High is in 18th place out of 38 teams. One win can move us up six spots and one loss could do the same. Our team has worked hard to get to a 3-2 record.
Fortnite Solos - 2 Rams in the top 10, one in the top 20, and in the top 25 out 63 players.
Fortnite Duos - Reidsville High owns the 2nd, 4th, 11th, 21st, and 23rd places out of 41 teams.
The Rams recently received an updated logo from their very own Reidsville High Alumni Jerome Simpson of JSimpso’s Custom Apparel! RHS is helping RHS out by making our first batch of shirts! When the school gets their first batch in, they will have an idea of the price and cost if anyone is interested in purchasing a shirt to promote the team! Go Rams!
Reidsville Middle School
Congratulations to our RMS Students of the Week! These students have been recognized by their teachers for exhibiting perseverance, which is our Character Trait of the Month!
RMS eighth grade students use electricity to split water to see that there is more hydrogen than oxygen that makes up the compound!
Reidsville Middle eighth grade students learned about physical change and types of mixtures as they made homemade slushies in the courtyard!

McMichael High School
The McMichael JROTC Marksmanship competed at the Air Force Junior ROTC National competition and finished 3rd overall Nationally out of 84 total teams! Congratulations to the team for this outstanding accomplishment. They are Garyn Kennon, Parker Long, Dalton Piotrowski, and Kelsey Steele!
Freshman STEM students at McMichael High School designed and built rockets using 3D printed nose cones, motor mounts, and launch lugs! Fins were also designed in CAD and cut with a laser cutter! Students also learned about physics and trigonometry as they analyzed the flights!
McMichael STEM students attended the annual North Carolina Technology Student Association (NC TSA) state conference March 26-28th 2023. At the NC TSA State Conference students competed in a variety of events including video production, CAD design, prepared presentations and many more. The McMichael chapter was announced as the 2023 Chapter of the year, which is the highest honor that can be achieved and is won through service to school and community along with awards won by students.
Many students are now preparing to take their projects to the national level this June in Louisville, Kentucky at the TSA National Conference.

McMichael's Greenhouse flowers are blooming as spring arrives!
Our Eden’s Own Journal McMichael student highlight for the month of April is Chelsea Lowe. Chelsea Lowe is the daughter of Walter and Denise Lowe. She is the Freshman Class President and is involved in various clubs, athletic teams and is a new inductee into the National Beta Club.
Chelsea is on the JV McMichael Basketball team and Cheerleading. Chelsea has maintained a 4.25 GPA having mostly all honors classes. In Chelsea’s free time she volunteers at the Barry L. Joyce Cancer Center along with caring for her family and community. Chelsea is in the STEM Academy at McMichael along with being involved in the AFJROTC with hopes to go into the Air Force before attending a four-year University.
Chelsea loves to make people smile and loves to be the light in a dim room. Chelsea says her hard working mindset and walk of faith has helped her be a successful young lady with a bright future. When Chelsea is faced with challenging situations she is reminded of this bible verse, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” Philippians 4:13

The Holmes Middle students at Honor Band worked extremely hard over two days and presented a great concert March 30! Thank you to all of the students, parents and family!
Seventh grade chorus students recently enjoyed a visit from members of the RedHawk American Indian Tribe! This was made possible in thanks to the Rockingham County Art County and the City of Eden! The purpose was to to bring cultural awareness to students!

Ms. Hopkins’ English 3 class at McMichael High School attended their semester activity, titled “The Great Gatsby”! This is Ms. Hopkins sixth year participating and partnering with Jamestown’s Ragsdale High School for this special event! Organized by Ragsdale High School teacher Ms. Miles, this year Rockingham County High School joined in the activity! Two of Mrs. Clark's English III classes at RCHS, along with Ms Hughes and Ms Goover, attended as well! All the students had a great time conversing and competing about all things Gatsby! It was held at the Revolution Mills in Greensboro on Wednesday, March 22!
