Boys Basketball Tryouts
Boys Basketball will be having tryouts Tuesday - Thursday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. This is for upcoming 9th graders through 12th graders. Students must have a physical form completed by an M.D. on file or in hand to try out. Athletic forms can be found on the HGHS Athletics website.
Cap and Gown Proofs
Students should return Cap and Gown proofs to the front office by April 10th.
HG Graduates Compete in Atlanta
Hazel Green graduates Cage Williamson and Raleigh Payton recently competed at the Emory University Invitational Track Meet in Atlanta. Cage competed for The University of Montevallo, while Raleigh represented Birmingham Southern University. Cage has already qualified to compete in the conference championship as a freshman! It's good to see our alumni having success at the next level!
Red Line Dance Team Tryouts
The tryouts for Hazel Green Red Line Dance team will be Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17, 4:00-5:30 in the Glenda Wright gym (old gym). There will be a parent meeting for those who are interested on Monday, April 6 at 6:00pm in Mrs. Braudaway’s room (Cll2).
Tryout information packets will be available at Meridianville Middle School (office), Hazel Green High School (front office and Mrs. Weir’s desk) and from Mrs. Braudaway (Cll2) on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.

France/Italy Trip Deadline
The deadline for the France and Italy trip for Summer 2016 is upon us! To pay $199 a month until trip is paid off, you must register by Tuesday, March 31st. After March 31st, ther payment plans are still available. Email Jacqueline Braudaway at jbraudaway@madison. k12.al.us for more information.
Otis Spunkmeyer Fundraiser
The Trojan Marching Band Color Guard will be selling Otis Spunkmeyer Baked Goods for the next two weeks. Please see a color guard girl or Miss Odom to order. Options include Cookies (Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Mint Chocolate Chunk, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, Triple Chocolate Chunk, Carnival, Butter Sugar, Orange, Strawberry Shortcake, Snickerdoodle, Oatmeal Raisin, Cranberry Oatmeal), Auntie Anne’s Soft Pretzel Nuggets, Auntie Anne’s Hand Twisted Pretzels, and Double Chocolate Chip Brownies). Summer Drivers Ed - Students will have the opportunity to take Drivers Ed this summer. Two sessions will available (June 1-15 and June 16-30). Classes will be limited to 24 and will be filled on first come, first served basis when online payment and registration have been received. Only ten spots left in Session 1. Cost is $120 for Madison County students or $145 for out of district students. Visit HGHS Drivers Ed for more information.
Swim Parent Meeting - On Monday, April 6th, at 5:30pm, in the Hazel Green High School cafeteria, there will be a Parent Meeting for students interested in swimming for HGHS Swim Team next year, starting August 2015. To be eligible to swim, you must be a student in good academic standing at HGHS, including those 7th and 8th who are in a feeder school to HGHS. Rising Freshman Registration - If you were not able to attend, visit our Freshman Registration Page. Counselors will be at MVMS on March 30-31 to register students for next year. Schedules will not be changed in the fall, so it's important to make an informed decision now.
Football/Competition Cheer Tryouts - Informational Parent Meeting at HGHS on Tuesday, March 31 at 6:30pm in Room N-215. Tryouts will be held April 6 - April 10 in the old high school gym (Wooley) from 4:00 to 5:30 and are closed to the public. We will do our best to be finished with tryouts by 5:30 on Friday but be prepared in case we run past 5:30pm. For more inforamtion on Competition Cheer and the tryout requirements, visit the Cheer website.
HGHS Bowling Team - The AHSAA sanctioned the sport this year and will start championship competition in the 2015-2016 school year. If you would like to get involved, contact Coach Jason Smith at email@example.com. Here are a few details about the season:
- Provides regular season competition for girls and boys. It becomes a sanctioned sport in the 2015-16 sports year with championship competition.
- Each school team is limited to 12 matches.
- The season concludes January 17, 2015.
- Team size may be determined by the school coach or local school policy. During a match only eight team members – five bowlers and three substitutes – will be allowed in the pit (team area) during competition.
- First practice is October 27. First contest is November 17.
Basketball Cheerleading Tryout Clinic will be held March 30 - April 2 from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Tryouts will be held April 3 from 4:00 to 6:00pm in the HGHS cafeteria. Girls Dress Code:
1. Excessive cleavage is not allowed.
2. Dress may be backless as long as it is not cut below the waist.
3. Navel may not be exposed.
4. No pinning will be allowed as an alteration for a dress if, without the pinning, the dress does not meet dress code.
5. Dress should not be excessively short or pulled up when dancing.
Boys Dress Code:
1. Suits or tuxedos should be worn.
3. Shirts must be buttoned up to the second button from the collar.
4. Pants should fit properly on the hip and not sag below the waistline.

Adventures at AMCOM (A@A) 2015 is a developmental opportunity for rising 9th -12th graders that will expose students to engineering, logistics, business, technical, and acquisition missions on Redstone Arsenal. This program will be offered to 20-25 students from across the Tennessee Valley the week of July 13-17, 2015. Deadline to apply is April 3rd. Boeing Huntsville STEM High School Internship Program - The Summer Internship Program offers students the opportunity to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) through exposure to various engineering careers and Boeing products. Students work 6 to 8 weeks from June through July to complete 120 to 160 hours or as determined by the student’s school curriculum/program requirements (approximately four hours per day). North Alabama Youth Leadership Board allows you to network with prominent business leaders of Huntsville, learn about issues in our community and give back to the community. To participate, students must agree to serve one full term on the Youth Leadership Board (September 2015 through April 2016) and attend board meetings once a month. They must also participate in partnerships with our affiliates: HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, National Children’s Advocacy Center and North Alabama Autism Society. Huntsville Hospital Athlete of the Week - Applicants must be a high school senior, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and display a history of athletic and academic accomplishments, as well as community/civic involvement. All weekly winners are invited to a banquet held in their honor in May, and two students are selected as Athletes of the Year. The two Athletes of the Year each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Trojan Daily Tips - All the newest information will be at the top, followed by our Athletic Schedules, Current Announcements, Senior Information and Permananent Announcements. Information from previous newsletters remains posted in Current Announcements until it expires. I welcome parents to send scores, pictures and updates from any Hazel Green sports or activities. We can't brag about it if we don't know about it. Scholarship and college visit information will only be posted once, and then it can be found on separate webpages for General Scholarships, College and University Scholarships, and School Visits and Special Programs.
Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form in to Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.
Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend - Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.
1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.
2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.
3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.
Juniors Have Free Access to ACT Online Prep - All juniors received a personal user name and password to the ACT Online Prep website. This is a great resource to be used in preparing for the ACT Plus Writing assessment which will be given to all of our juniors during school. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.

Driver’s permit: Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.
