Challenge
As the month continues, her grains of rice reach over a billion!
Every day on KCAN leading up to winter break, we will have a specific math challenge for each grade based on their TEKS and where they currently stand in their units. We will ask each grade a question stem that using the following format:
"Based on the patterns of Rani's rice from the previous days, how many grains of rice will she have on day _____". Since the younger students haven't covered all of the place values, we will start with Kinder and end with 5th grade. The schedule is as follows:
Wed 12/7: Set up challenge - Kinder’s Thursday 12/8: 1st Monday 12/12: 2nd Tuesday 12/13 : 3rd Wednesday 12/14: 4th Thursday 12/15: 5th Teachers will have read the book with their students on Monday/ Tuesday of this week and briefly discuss the patterns, but PLEASE refrain from showing them the chart in the back of the book! All of the answers are there! The final challenge will be to determine what the exact count of rice was on the 30th day and submit your answers to the library. (grades K-3 may collaborate as an entire class). On Friday December 16th, we will draw from all of the correct submissions and announce at Friday assembly!
