Message from the Principal's Office
Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there! I wish you all the best day ever - free from laundry, cooking, and work of any sort!
Our CHS staff has made a great deal of progress over the past week in solidifying plans for student support and senior honors as we inch closer and closer to the end of the school year. That being said, here are some important dates to keep in mind:
May 15: Parent Appreciation Day: We are encouraging students and parents to take a much needed and well-deserved break on this date and instead to use this time to do something fun together. Parents - from the bottom of our hearts - THANK YOU for all the work you have done in support of your students, especially during virtual learning.
May 22: Last Day for New Learning: No new lessons will be posted for non dual credit classes after this date.
May 26 - June 9: Remediation & Enrichment Period: All students will be able to use this time to "catch up" on any past due assignments from Semester II as well as to take advantage of some fun, optional enrichment activities.
May 22 - May 31: Paint the Town: We encourage everyone in the Clinton community to join us in painting the town in support of the Class of 2020. All seniors will receive window paints during the May 20 and May 21 picture days. We will also have an overflow of painting supplies available in the main office, starting May 22, for anyone else wanting to join in the fun. :)
May 31, 1:00 pm: Virtual Graduation: We will host a semi-live virtual graduation ceremony on this date.Stay tuned in upcoming newsletters for details of how to "tune in" to watch the ceremony.
June 1, 12:00 pm: Due date for Pass/No Pass Opt-out Forms: Remember, any student wishing to receive a letter grade in lieu of a grade of "Pass" or "No Pass" grade for one or more of his/her classes needs to fill out and submit a form making this request.
June 9: Last Day of School for Students: Yahoo!!!!!
June 15: First day of summer school. All credit recovery classes will be taught virtually. Stay tuned for more information.
Have a wonderful day everyone!
Mrs. Franz
Should I take my class for Pass/No Pass or for a Letter Grade?
- You do not need to make any decisions right now.
- Letter grades will be averaged into your GPA, but grades of Pass/No Pass will not.
- You will receive credit for all classes you pass, whether you request a letter grade or just take a class for Pass/No Pass.
- Knowing our Grading Timeline might help: May 28th, all grades in Skyward will reflect what your letter grade will be should you decide to keep it. It's best to wait until then to make any decisions. You will still have a couple of days to fill out the necessary paperwork to "keep" any letter grades you want, as the pass/No Pass Opt-out form is not due until June 1 at noon. June 10, your teachers will "finalize" grades. Classes for which you have requested a letter grade will remain a letter grade. All other grades, for a D- or above, will be overridden with at grade of "Pass" (Covid-Satisfactory - CS), and grades of F will be overridden with a grade of "No Pass" (Covid-Unsatisfactory - CU).
Again - feel free to reach out to Mrs. Runkel for help in making your decision. We are happy to help talk you through the process. For detailed information on Grading During Covid-19 and to access the Pass/No Pass Opt-out Form, click on the links below:

Info on Remediation & Enrichment
Remediation:
- Students with grades of "F" in one or more of their classes will be identified as students in need of extra academic support.
- These students will be assigned a "learning coach" - a CHS staffer who will help coordinate communication between classroom teachers, students, and parents to develop a personalized plan of support for that student during the remediation period.
- Students will work to "catch up" on past due assignments from SEM II with the goal of passing all classes.
- Students who are unsuccessful during our remediation period may be referred to summer school for credit recovery.
Enrichment:
- Optional enrichment lessons will be posted daily by way of Class Advisory Google Classrooms.
- These project-based activities will be designed to get students away from screens, learning in the world around them.
