How can Farming increase Biodiversity?
First you need to know what biodiversity is to understand how is helps. Biodiversity is the variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem. When farmers plant organic foods, it gets rid of the synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. This is very beneficial for biodiversity and has been proven as well.
Why Might Farmers Want to Limit Pesticide Use?
A Pesticide is a substance used for destroying insects or other organisms harmful to plants or animals. Using too much of this substance can cause short-term and even long-term problems to humans. Farmers who have been around pesticides for most of their lives have a lot of neurological problems even if they've never had a huge accident with this substances. Some of the short-term problems were memory loss, headache and fatigue.
How can Deforestation Decrease the Biodiversity of an area?
Deforestation is the removal of trees. Taking away these trees can damage a biodiversity in many ways. It takes away the homes of certain creature, food for others, and oxygen for us as well. Some animals even lose their ability to live without these trees. Forests can grow back but it takes a stretched time period and some forests don't even experience regrowth.
How would the Draining of a Wetland to make way for a Residential Development affect the wildlife that lives in that area?
Anytime you take away anything from an animals habitat, you automatically endanger whatever lives in that area. So if you drain a wetland, you are basically getting rid of everything that lives in that wetland and making them move to find new homes. Getting rid of their homes for your homes is not right at all but if it has to be done, then you should make sure you're not hurting all of the wildlife in that area.
Why should we work to restore the wetlands on the coast of North Carolina?
Wetlands have been affected a lot over the years. Putting roads and pavement has greatly reduced the lands ability to absorb all the runoff that's been polluted as it's reached land before it hits the waters of our east coast. Our wetlands are very well known in North Carolina and losing it would cause a huge loss in attractions and wildlife in that area.
