March 2022 #ourcorgitale
Message from Dr. Fay & Mrs. Henson
Dear Crossroads Community,
Hello! It's the time of the year to acquaint you with the procedures we will use for determining classroom assignments for the 2022-2023 school year. Our ultimate goal is to place each child in an environment that is comfortable and conducive to the growth of the individual student. Much consideration is given to appropriately match learning styles and personalities of students and teachers. Of equal importance is designing a classroom in which the children will positively influence each other. A student’s current teacher may list particular needs related to the child’s learning style and the characteristics of the learning environment that would best meet the needs of the child. However, the teacher will not recommend a particular teacher. Their input is valuable and will be taken with great regard.
The administrative team will collect needed information prior to making placement decisions. The placement process is highly reflective and focuses on the needs of all children. Parents are invited to share views regarding their child’s needs, learning styles, and the characteristics of the teacher that would best meet the needs of their child. If a parent wishes to express their views regarding their child’s needs, this should be addressed in writing by completing the Learning Environment Form. Please do not designate a specific teacher name. The Learning Environment Form is included as an attachment in the newsletter email and forms can also be found in the office.
Please return your form by Wednesday, March 14 in order for your input to be considered for placement. If you have any questions, please reach out. Thank you!
Have a great March!

Raptor Security System Information
Part of keeping students and staff safe is knowing who is in our building at all times, so we are rolling out a system to allow us to do just that. Starting January 24, 2022, WSD visitors will check in to our buildings using Raptor, a new visitor management system designed to assist with building security.
What does that mean for you?
When you arrive in a WSD building as a visitor, you will be asked to scan your ID, take a photo and complete the management system’s check-in process.
Raptor will screen the information against sex offender databases and locally customized lists of banned or potentially threatening individuals, instantly alert school officials to a threatening presence, and maintain a searchable log of all visitors.
Once approved, you will get a customized visitor badge to wear while in the building.
Thank you for your support as we roll this out and enhance school safety protocols!
Parents or guardians who are only picking up a child for the day will not need to use the visitor management system.
Arrival and Dismissal - Please Read Carefully
All of our car riders and our daycare van riders will go to the gym at the end of the day. Once in the gym, a staff member will call students’ names over the radio for them to come out to meet their vehicle. A staff member will escort students to each car.
PLEASE READ: We are no longer allowing parents to walk up to get their children. You will need to drive through the pick-up line.
We sent home lime green car tags with all students on their first day of school, 8/24. If you need additional tags, please check in the main office. ***PLEASE USE A THICK MARKER TO FILL THESE OUT***
When you drive through the car lanes, please have the lime green car tag on your dashboard where we can see the names of your students. If you do not have the car tag, we will have to check your ID, radio the office, and wait for them to clear you before we can call your child out. As you can imagine, this will slow down the process for everyone.
A few other things to keep in mind with this process: Please remember, we do not accept dismissal changes after 3:00 pm. Also, our primary focus is student safety and 3:20 is a critical time when children can potentially get lost in the shuffle; it is imperative that we streamline the secretaries’ time to focus only on emergencies that arise. With that in mind, please understand that we will not permit access to the office after 3:20 to check out a student. Please plan accordingly so we aren’t caught in the position to have to tell you no. Also, remember that you are responsible for calling in to change if your walker will become a car rider during the days with inclement weather. We will no longer be sending a text about rainy day dismissals.
If you have any questions or thoughts, please let us know.
Please review our arrival and dismissal maps below:

Great news! Crossroads has partnered with Smile Programs, the mobile dentists to offer in-school dental care. Sign up your child today by clicking this link. You can also use the QR code below to take you to the link.
Even better, dental care is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted including Medicaid and CHIP. For those without insurance, a low cost self-pay option is available.
Convenient and comfortable
Our in-school dental program saves you time and provides a safe and comfortable place for your child to receive gentle dental care from licensed local professionals. Dental care includes a complete dental exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealants when necessary, and in some cases, restorative care such as fillings.
Dental care for a healthy life
Children who see a dentist regularly may have fewer health issues like:
Early tooth loss caused by dental decay
Gum disease
Heart disease
Impaired speech development
Help keep your child healthy, in school and learning. Simply sign up at https://www.myschooldentist.com/CEWRMO_schsrm before April 20th.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at amandawhiteaker@wsdr4.org.

Book Fair!
The Crossroads Book Fair is underway. Students will visit the fair during their library time. You can pay with cash, check payable to Crossroads Elementary, credit /debit card, or eWallet. If you send cash, please put it in an envelope labeled with your child's name and teacher's name. The Scholastic eWallet is an easy and secure way to pay for book fair purchases. Click on this link to set one up.
You may also help teachers build their classroom libraries by purchasing a book from a teacher’s Wish Basket. Teachers will have books they would like in their labeled Wish Basket. Students always love surprising their teacher with a great book.

You Shop, The School Gets Paid!
Did you know that when you shop on Amazon, it’s easy for Crossroads to get a small percentage from your purchase? All you have to do is shop through AmazonSmile instead of Amazon. Once you’ve set up your account, your shopping experience will be identical. The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. Crossroads Elementary PTA would be grateful to be the charity you choose. Go to smile.amazon.com to get started. Once you’ve set this up, it’s easy to set up your Amazon app to link to AmazonSmile as well.
