Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion Families,
I hope you had a great holiday vacation and want to wish everyone a ¡Feliz Año Nuevo 2023! I would like to thank Karen and Rick DeGolia and the Atherton Police Department for hosting another incredible Toy Drive. Our Community School Coordinator, Jose Luna and Administrative Assistant Claudia Sandoval were able to help identify families in need so that 144 students participated this year. Furthermore, Jose started a new "Holiday Buddy" program that supported eight families in need financially and our Librarian Diane Ocon personally raised over $2000 to support 6 of those families for the Holidays--great job!
The rainy weather, although very much needed and welcome due to the serious drought we've been experiencing the last few years, has created some challenges for everyone. Please remember to leave home a little earlier in the morning on rainy days to get your child to school on time due to expected delays on the road and anticipate a little longer wait in the pick up line in the afternoon(we appreciate everyone's patience!). Our students should report directly to our Cafeteria which opens starting at 7:45am if it is raining. Recess and Lunch are also indoors during rainy days. Our PE+ program has pivoted to indoor classes where they are doing circuit training this week.
You will notice a few more improvements to our campus that happened over the holiday break thanks to the Bond Construction team. We now have new flooring in the STEAM lab that is more appropriate and can support STEAM activities. We will also be receiving new furniture that is more appropriate for the STEAM activities. Outside in the 300 wing, behind the 2 story building and near the bicycle rack, the two 307/308 portable offices and the five old storage containers(covered in ivy) were all removed. The "spikey" weeded area that popped many a bicycle tire over the years was paved over and one larger and new storage container was brought in. The area now looks cleaner, brighter, and larger. We envision a new play structure in this area possibly in the future with the newly passed Bond funding.
We know the greatest amount of learning happens for our students from now in January through the Spring Break in April. However, student attendance is key as well so please make sure your students are here every day on time and for the whole day (unless they are sick).
I would like to acknowledge the students listed below for making the greatest growth on the iReady Benchmark Assessments from September through December:

New TK/Kindergarten Registration 2023/23 and Tours
The School District Enrollment and School of Choice for 2023/24 TK/Kindergarten closes this Friday, January 13th at 3:00pm. It is important that both the Registration/Enrollment Form for your home school(based on your address) and the School of Choice Form for Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion must be completed by January 13th. Current PreSchool students here on our campus with Maestra Aida or Maestra Yulizma and TK students with Maestra Jennifer will have priority acceptance and do not need to complete the School of Choice form as long as the Kinder Registration form is completed on time. Child Nutrition Services: January Breakfast and Lunch Menus
A healthy body fosters a healthy and focused mind. Well-rounded meals served in RCSD school cafeterias are created using USDA nutrition guidelines as well as “kid-approved” recipes. Whole grains, milk, fresh produce, protein, and healthy fats containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are the stars of the breakfast and lunch menu items. Studies show that good eating habits and healthy behaviors are connected to academic achievement. Meals provided by Child Nutrition Services help to shape lifelong healthy habits. All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch for free again this year through our Child Nutrition Services.
