A Peek at Next Week
Word Study - Summer words, quiz on Friday, May 20th, our last quiz of the year.
Writing - Writers will begin planning and writing their last personal narrative. We will begin by brainstorming important firsts and lasts they have experienced. They will review their writer's notebook to choose a small moment to develop into a published piece by the middle of next week.
Reading - Readers will delve into plays and reader's theater, learning the vocabulary and uses of scenes, props, and stage direction. Students will practice reading through plays with a small group this week.
Math - Students will spend time this week expanding their knowledge of place value, geometry, and multiplication. They will use expanded form to begin multiplying larger numbers vertically, which will help them transition to the algorithm when they are ready next year. We will also add tenths and hundredths to our place value chart, practicing adding and subtracting them, along with connecting them to fractions. Students will also learn additional vocabulary concerning angles in geometry and work with a geoboard to practice making figures with right, obtuse, and acute angles.
Science - Scientists will continue working on their ecosystem poster this week, along with reviewing food chains and food webs. They will take a science benchmark on Tuesday, May 17th.
Social Studies - "What are the Public Services in Our Community?"
