What's Up in the Tech World
Can you believe it is almost September?
Especially for elementary and middle school: Bring some "real-world" reading into your classroom. I have included a link to Newsela. This is a great place to find news articles for students to read on their reading level. You can choose the reading level of the article. You can even differentiate within your classroom. There are even embedded assessments for the articles. A great resource with links and information about different reading tools is located here.
As we begin to use more technology in the classroom, it is important to realize that it isn't about just handing a student a device and letting them go. More and more I become convinced that we have a huge responsibility to teach digital citizenship. Who is teaching these kids the proper use of technology to LEARN? It certainly isn't their parents from what I see. I feel a great burden to provide these students with the knowledge of how to use technology effectively in the world they are graduating into. I have included a link to a youtube channel that contains a wealth of video concerning digital citizenship, classroom management, and appropriate use of specific technology tools in the classroom.
For those teachers who use activities or assessments where students label images, I have included a video describing a really fun tech tool, ThingLink, that you can use to have students label an image using technology. I would love to help you integrate this if you are interested. ThingLink is one of my favorite tools!
I have included a really cool graphic about "Types of Student Inquiry". Take a look and see where your classroom falls.
