Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of March 5, 2023
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Greetings,
Although it is a short week, students were quite busy wrapping up athletics and gaining great academic experiences.
Ms. Hannigan and the Social Studies Department, in coordination with Eagleton Institute of Politics from Rutgers University, hosted a Civics Fair, on Tuesday. Our AP Government students ran activities for our students and staff. We are excited to be the first South Jersey school to have a visit from Eagleton and to host this fair.
Students from Culinary 2 & 3 classes visited the Borgata in Atlantic City to examine careers in the food service industry. They received a tour from Hector Agosto, Executive Restaurant Chef at the Water Club. The students were impressed with the number of employees they met and the variety of jobs available. They were able to walk through every restaurant and view the front and back of the house operations.
FBLA members attended the State Leadership Conference this week at Harrah's Casino/Convention Center. Our students will be competing in various events such as, creating web pages, impromptu speaking, computer gaming and simulation business ethics.
Ten of our students participated in the Equity and Student Voice forum with the Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District. The students were able to discuss with neighboring schools issues that pertain to students. Great discussions and ideas were shared.
On Wednesday evening, 200 students in grades 4 through 12 participated in an all-district orchestra performance. The students were lucky to have guest conductor, Ms. Toni Benecchi leading them. A special thanks to Ms. Jenna DiSalvio, Ms. Katherine Wyatt & Ms. Samantha Sara, EHT Orchestra Directors, for making the night a success.
The winter season has finally come to an end. Swimmers ended the season strong during the Meet of Champions. Leo Smilveski, Michael Wojo, Charles Schreiner and Dylan DeWitt placed 8th overall in the 200 Free Relay and 6th overall in the 400 Free Relay. Charles Schreiner took 2nd place in the 500 Free. The ladies were equally impressive as Katie Carlos, Denise Yushan, Kayla Nguyen and Rhylee Cornell took 7th in the Medley Relay. On the track, Michaela “Kiki” Schlemo ran a PR of 10:57.53 in the 3200 in the NJ Meet of Champions. Finally, the basketball team ended their impressive run with a tough loss to Patterson Eastside High School at Rutgers in the state finals. Great job to all of our athletes and coaches.
Finally, March is National Athletic Training Month. Rothman Orthopedics selected and honored our athletic trainers, Jennifer Zapp & Kyu Lee for their life saving efforts. Great job!! We couldn’t be prouder of their service to our school and athletic community.
Join us tonight for our Mr. EHT competition. Doors open at 6 pm and the show will begin at 6:30 pm. Best of luck to all of the contestants. Please remember we have a half day today and students do not have school on Friday due to staff professional development.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Carugno

#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
