A Great Week Ahead
Wow, only two weeks left in May as continue to roll on towards the final few weeks of school.
This week we will have a visit from Thompson Elementary in Lake Villa on Monday. All students will take the final MAP assessment of the school year. 5th grade will take the Illinois State Science Assessment.
In addition, we will have an ipad training for K-2 and an inspiration Ed Camp for our 5th graders that will include a former Shark Tank winner and a BigTen Network sports anchor to name a few participants.
And on Friday we will all put on our favorite perfume - Eau de Pancake Breakfast....
Busy..Busy..Busy..Keep up all the great work everyone.
Habit 4 - Think Win-Win
The win-win moment happened In the men's 1500 meter wheelchair race. The two competitors were Australian Mark Urquhart and Steven Simmons of the United States. The two men we right beside each other as they came to the finish line. They discussed finishing together, which is great in and of itself. Then, right before the finish line Australian Mark Urquhart, that won gold in the event in 2014, slowed down put and his hand on the back of Simmons' chair and pushed him across the finish line.
From Simmons:
"We knew there was only going to be one medal and we talked about just crossing the line together and letting it fall however it was going to fall," said Simmons. "He had already won a gold medal and as we neared the final stretch, he looked at me and said, 'Take it.'"
From Urquhart:
"I got my gold and I'm absolutely stoked with what I've achieved in the last games," he said.
"I've been in the chair for nine years so I know how tough it is."
"These guys are just learning so I'm happy for Steven to get the gold. It couldn't have gone to a better man."
You can see the finish in the video at the link below.
