Principal's Message

September was an exciting month! It's always so good to see the school fill up with the excitement of students coming back in fall. Strong Connections was definitely a highlight as teachers got to spend time with small groups of students, getting to know them better by building intentional relationships, and spending time assessing them in order to prepare to teach to the individual needs of every student.

The Terry Fox Run was also a highlight. Students stepped up and exceeded our goal of raising $400 for the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research. Mr. Fast joined me in getting a pie in the face - all in good fun! It was also fun to run through the community as a school, and do our part to give back to a good cause.

October brings Thanksgiving, Picture Day, Fire Hall field trips for the grade 1's, and much learning! Also, please note that in October, PAC will be adding some Tuesday Hot Lunch options as trial, as well as moving to an online ordering system. Read the information below to familiarize yourself with that.

Student Code of Conduct & Protocol for Addressing Concerns

Every few years it is important to take a look at school policies and update them. We have updated our Code of Conduct. Please Click Here to familiarize yourself with it. In general our Code of Conduct is based on the belief that every student is unique, special, and an important part of our school community. We believe that building into positive behaviours plays a large role in preventing negative behaviours. Being proactive with behaviour issues, and keeping communication lines open can prevent many behaviour problems from escalating. However when the need arises, behaviour issues will be dealt with according to our Code of Conduct and Positive Behaviour Program. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Hiebert at vhiebert@hsd.ca

It is also important to highlight our Protocol for Addressing Concerns. It is inevitable that a concern or question will arise about something happening in the classroom, on the playground, or at school in general.

Generally speaking, a parent should start with the person most directly involved with the concern. For example, if you have a concern with something that took place in the classroom, you would speak first to the classroom teacher.

Understanding the line of communication in Manitoba schools is essential in working to resolve a concern in a school community. This line of communication should be followed in this order:

  1. Classroom Teacher

  2. Principal

  3. Superintendent

  4. School Board

Pick-up & Drop-off

A reminder that parents are to walk their students from the Family Parking lot to the playground. DO NOT DROP YOUR CHILDREN OFF IN THE BUS LOOP.

We encourage parents to say goodbye at the drop-off point. Parents are not permitted to roam the playground, however those who wish to wait with their child until the 8:50 bell rings are welcome to wait at the Flagpole.

End of Day

When you are picking up or dropping off your child at the end of the day, please either meet them at the fence near the Family Parking lot to walk them across the bus loop, or meet them by entrance C. Please do not wait outside your child's classroom door.

Visiting Elmdale

All guests, including parents and grandparents, are asked to use Entrance A & C (centre of the school) when entering and exiting the building.

Please remember to sign in at the office when attending the school. Whether volunteering, dropping something off, or picking up your child during the day, we ask that all guests sign in at the office. Those volunteering at the school will be asked to wear a volunteer badge or sticker to identify you. Adults in the hallway without proper identification will be asked to check in at the office.

Hot Lunch is Going Green!
