Message from the Principal
JAJHS Families,
I hope you’ve had a great week! Our teachers used Tuesday’s professional development day to work in teams to discuss transitions between buildings for our students. Our goal is to make these experiences for our incoming 7th graders and outgoing 8th graders as smooth and positive as possible.
Around the building, our students are preparing for ELA and science MAP testing in the coming weeks. Our student-athletes are beginning to wrap up their winter seasons. Be sure to see the message below about the success of our 7th and 8th grade spelling teams!
I hope that you and your family have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mr. Malany
Principal
High School Scheduling for 8th Graders
January 30th & 31st: Mrs. Wolfe, our high school guidance counselor, will be at the JAJHS in 8th grade Social Studies classes to discuss scheduling information and graduation requirements.
February 17th: 8th graders give completed scheduling forms with parent/guardian signature to their Social Studies teacher.
February 21st & 22nd: Guidance staff will be in 8th grade Social Studies classrooms to finalize 9th grade schedules and input to SchoolLinks. We will be using the schedule forms signed by parent/guardian.

It's Time to Dance!
Student council will be hosting our first dance of the year on Friday, February 10th from 7-9 P.M. The cost will be $5 at the door. Opportunities to chaperone and donate refreshments can be found here. Our theme is Mardi Gras, and the dress is semi-formal, though students can wear what is comfortable (but still appropriate). Please let Mrs. Garner know if you have any questions.
JAHS Show Choir
If you have a student interested in being in our JAHS Show Choir you can find out what it’s all about. February is competition month and after months of rehearsing they’ve got the show perfected and want our community to be the first to see it. This will be their first public performance showcasing their competition show. It will be at the High School Auditeria February 1st at 7:00 P.M.
If you have a student in our music program YOU are a member of our Music Booster family and we’d love to meet you! Our next meeting will be at the High School Choir room Monday, January 23rd at 7:00 P.M. We keep them limited to just one hour…or less. We’d love to see you! Contact Tiffany Eudaily (president) at Tiffanyeudaily@gmail.com, Wendy Brown (VP over Choirs) at Wendy_brown522@yahoo.com or Julie Murphy (VP over band) at murphyjac@yahoo.com

2023-2024 High School Girls' Soccer Meeting

Pioneer Planners
Having a student planner is an essential part of success at JAJHS. Planners are used as hallway/restroom passes. In each class, teachers explicitly share with students what reminders to write in their planners. We believe that developing these executive functioning skills are an important part of helping students grow.
As we enter a new semester, this is a great time to check in on this. Please ask your child to see her/his planner. If it has been misplaced or is not in a functional condition, replacement planners can be purchased in the JAJHS office for $6.00 with checks being payable to “Jonathan Alder Junior High School.”
Thank you for your help with developing this important life-long skill.
Spelling Bee
Outstanding job to the 7th and 8th Grade Spelling Teams as they competed in the Madison County Spelling Bee at Tolles Technical Center on January 10th. Our spellers represented us well - especially through some extremely unique words! Congratulations to our 8th grader Lily Talik for placing 1st place in the written spelling portion of the competition. Lily will be advancing to the Regional competition in Athens, Ohio.
Also in the 8th grade written competition, congratulations to 8th grader Emma Chase for placing 4th and Natalie Musil for placing 9th. In the 7th grade written competition, congratulations to Maddie McCartney for placing 2nd and to Emmalyn Moyer and Ella Dyar for tying for 3rd place.
7th Grade Team: Ella Dyar, Madelyn McCartney, Emmalyn Moyer, Marisela Molter, John Parker; Coach: Mrs. Heinig
