News from Panther Headquarters
May 2022
From the desk of the Principal...
We are officially in the final stretch and we plan to finish strong! As we close out another exciting year, we just want you to know that we appreciate the trust you place in us every single day to educate and care for your students. We don’t take the responsibility lightly and are always thinking of ways to be better. To that end, the assessment season is wrapping up and this is a time that informs us of how we are doing from an instruction standpoint. We look forward to analyzing the data we will receive to help us improve for next year and beyond. Many of you have heard, the legislatures passed a bill that impacts our calendar for next year. There has been a slight change in order to comply with the new law, so please make yourself aware of the change in E-learning days for next year. It goes from 4 days to 3; details of that change are published on our district website. Please expect information soon on important happenings for the summer; our annual registration time, Panther Preview is shaping up and we are excited to get that to you soon.
Have an amazing May and congratulations on another great school year!

Rental IPAD collection for 7th/8th graders is May 18th
Rental IPAD collection for 5th/6th graders is May 19th
Parents--rental iPad collection will take place on Wednesday May 18 for 7th and 8th graders, and Thursday May 19 for 5th and 6th graders. Please remember to have your students charge their iPads and bring them to school to be collected. You do not need to do anything to prepare the iPad for this (i.e. signing out, resetting, etc.) and you do not need to include anything other than the iPad itself and the case.
A note to parents of 7th and 8th graders--your iPad rental case includes a keyboard that attaches to the front. While many students choose not to carry this with them at school, it is part of your rental. If not included, there will be a charge of approximately $50 for a missing portion of the case.
Yearbooks
Purchased yearbooks will be distributed Thursday, May 19, end of day.
We have a little over 100 overrun copies that will be for sale. Those copies are sold before school on Friday, May 20 (last day) at the bookstore for $40 (exact cash or check) on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will get off the bus and come directly to the bookstore. Once the extra copies are gone, they are gone. Remember yearbooks go on sale each July and can purchased through March.
Band Concert
The Spring band concert is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11 at 7:30PM in the HIJH Main Gym. Jazz band students will meet for a warm-up and sound check at 6PM in the main gym. All other band students grades 6 – 8 should report for warm-up at 7PM. All students should wear their band uniform: 7th and 8th graders = Black Dress Pants, Black Dress Shoes, Black socks and White shirts or blouses; 6th graders = Black Dress Pants, Black Dress Shoes, Black Socks and Blue Music T-Shirt. Hope to see you there!

CURRENT 8TH GRADERS - 2022 FRESHMAN ORIENTATION INFORMATION
Hamilton Southeastern High School
Fishers High School
COURSE SCHEDULING FOR 2022-2023:
Current 5th Graders
Student schedules for next year will reflect the natural progression of their current courses. Team assignments will be available at Panther Preview Day.
Current 6th and 7th Graders
Families should have received a Skylert to view elective course selections for next year. The window to view your child’s elective courses is now closed. Please contact the guidance office (kweitzel@hse.k12.in.us) if you would like to verify those elective course selections.
Current 8th Graders
All 8th Graders should have met with their High School Counselor to go over next school year’s scheduling options. If your child has not yet met with a High School Guidance Counselor and will be attending HSEHS/FHS, please contact your High School’s Guidance Department counselor to make an appointment or set up a time to discuss courses. All schedule changed need to be made by MAY 20th.
8th Graders Attending a High School outside of HSE School District:
If your child will be attending a high school outside of HSE School District for 9th grade year, please notify the HIJH guidance office (317-594-4124) or email Kristen Weitzel (kweitzel@hse.k12.in.us) as soon as possible. HSEHS and FHS require that we forward withdrawal forms to them at the end of this school year. If one is not completed, you will be contacted by their high school to come in to sign their form before they will release records to your new school. Thank you in advance for helping us with this.
Withdrawing Your Student:
If your child will be withdrawing from Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate/Junior High School, please notify the Guidance Office or Kristen Weitzel (kweitzel@hse.k12.in.us) at least two days in advance of your child’s last day. Withdrawal forms must be signed by the parent/guardian.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness month, Hamilton Southeaster Schools will be hosting a parent night “Tools for Parenting and Anxious Child” on May 5th.

Attendance/Early Dismissals
With the end of the year approaching quickly we want to continue to emphasize the importance of your students’ attendance. Please continue to call or email the attendance secretary if you need your student released early. Last minute phone calls are often challenging and disruptive to classroom instruction so we would ask that sufficient notice is given in advance for dismissals. Also, please make sure students are going to the nurse if they are not feeling well instead of texting a parent.
Additionally, and for planning purposes, our car rider line does seem to form quite early so dismissals after 3:30 may be difficult to maneuver.
Please call the attendance line, 317-594-4126, by 9:00am to report Early Dismissals. This allows the staff adequate time to facilitate the request for dismissal. We will send your student a pass and have them waiting for you in the office at the time requested.
If you do not call ahead……the parent/guardian will need to show identification to have the student dismissed. This is for the security of our students.
NOTE: Please be aware that it may take time to locate students who are at lunch, outside for P.E., Recess, etc. The more notice you can give the school, the smoother this process becomes. We appreciate your assistance!
