Pre-K Classroom weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

As Thanksgiving is approaching, I would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. For this week, we will be learning about the history of this extraordinary holiday. Children will learn and understand the challenges Pilgrims underwent to settle into a new world. There will be many activities that will definitely enhance your child's learning. I would truly appreciate any help from volunteers. I have attached a volunteer form to this newsletter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

What're we doing this week?

For this week, I will be reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Children will be able to observe and study the different stages of a caterpillar as they follow along. The children will be able to make a caterpillar using egg cartons and they'll wrap yarn around their caterpillar to make a cocoon. The cocoons will be hung on the class tree. By the end of the week, the children will make their own butterflies in which they will replace the cocoons with. This activity will help children develop a better understanding of the life cycle.

Reading/Social Studies

The children will be given puppets and materials to retell or re-enact The Pilgrims' First Thanksgiving. In doing so, the children will be able to have a clear representation of the characters and how the story is structured (beginning, middle, and end). This lesson also combines with Social Studies. The children will learn the history of Thanksgiving and will be given a chance to share stories of how they celebrate it.

This weeks math lesson will be over one-digit numerals, 0-9. Students will be able to grasp an understanding of numbers by the end of lesson. The students will learn a song called "9 Little Ladybugs". The original song is called "10 Little Ladybugs" but I changed the numbering from 0-9. Here is the link to the original song: Students will learn to memorize this song to make counting much easier for them. Further more, the children will be given a ten frame and manipulatives as I use the ladybug number cards to test their knowledge. If time permits, children will use the computers to play a math game that involves numbering.
