Have a great weekend!

Brimfield Elementary Choir Performs!
Thank you to Mrs. Kirby for all of your hard work in preparing our students!
Math 24 Competition!
Field local Schools took 16 students to compete and 7 high school students attended to help proctor.
Out of the 16 students we took, all but 4 placed in the top 8, while the rest received table ribbons. The students that did not place still did a wonderful job and scored many points against the competitors. Our proctors were kind and gentle with the younger students and I witnessed several students with topnotch sportsmanship, congratulating and shaking hands with others, from the tournament. I had so much pride for our Falcons today!
There were students from the following schools in attendance:
Bedford City, Aurora, Streetsboro, Rootstown, Kent, Waterloo, Southeast, and Windham
Congratulations to these Brimfield Elementary students
Grade 5

Zach Gainer (1st place, table winner)

SKATING STARTING!
Roller Skating!
Roller skating for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students starts this Monday, February 27th. Please send your student to school with their bicycle helmet if they have one. If they do not have one, I will have some that they may use that are being provided by the skating company.
As you are aware, the PE skating unit for grades 3-5 begins on Monday. Students will be provided helmets with a disposable protective cover but also have the option to bring their own helmets or bandana to wear instead of the disposable cover. We look forward to all the fun!
Thanks,
Mr. Turner

COUNSELORS CORNER!
Hello Brimfield Families!
I hope everyone is staying warm with this February weather! I wanted to send out some information about anxiety. Unsurprisingly I am seeing an uptake of students who are dealing with anxious feelings. First, I would like to talk about some specific things that you can do, as a parent or guardian, to help your child manage their anxiety.
One of the most important things to remember when children feel worried or anxious is to not dismiss their feelings. While their feelings might seem unwarranted to us, they are very real to the child experiencing them. By reminding children that it is okay to feel anxious, we validate their experiences and give them permission to work through it. A practical tip for helping children work through anxiety, and to help them manage it in a way that doesn’t take over their lives, is to have them write down their worries when they come up. Children can then place the worries in a container, and you can set a time of the day or week to go through them together. This provides a safe space for children to work through their worries and to see that you will process their feelings with them.
As you help your child work through their worries, it is important to help your child focus on what they can control. For example, if your child is worried about a test coming up, remind them that they can’t control which questions are on the test, but they can control how they prepare.
Lastly, when supporting children who are feeling anxious, it is important to make sure your own anxieties are in check. Different life circumstances can leave us all feeling anxious. Our kids can pick up on this, so it is important that we, as adults, are using our own coping strategies to manage our anxieties.
If you have any concerns please feel free to contact me!

PBIS CORNER
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is an important part of the school environment to encourage positive behavior. There are clear expectations throughout the school that are taught consistently throughout the year. The four expectations promoted at Field Local Schools are:
Safe
Outstanding
Accountable
Respectful
When students do not respond to teaching of the building or classroom expectations, we will view it as an opportunity for re-teaching, not just negative consequences. Students still receive consequences for negative behavior. The goal of the consequence is to teach students so they will not repeat the negative behavior.
