Principal's Message
April 2019
Dear Gilbert families,
As we move to complete April, I want to thank everyone for their hard work on the AzMERIT exams. We are completing the Math exams this week and next will prepare the End of the Year exams in the courses next month.
These exams are very important as they not only demonstrate students' mastery of the Arizona State Standards but also for our own accountability mechanisms with the state. We appreciate everyone taking the exams seriously and giving their best. As our students matriculate through both high school and their post secondary instructions, they will be faced with more and more high-stakes exams. I think we all agree that as educators and parents that we would be remiss if we are not preparing our students for that reality.
Some kudos since our last newsletter!
Congratulations
Congratulations to our Boys Basketball team for their 2019 State Championship! Our Girls Basketball were 2019 State Runnerups, as well! Overall, it was a fantastic basketball season and we are so very proud of the boys, the girls and all of our coaches! Kudos as well to our students who made the trek to ASU to cheer on their classmates!
Our Winterguard performances were awesome, as well, at the WGAZ State Championships. Our three units did very well! Their places:
Gilbert Scholastic Regional Guard - 2nd Place
Gilbert "Black" Winter Guard - 2nd Place
Gilbert Indoor Percussion - 3rd Place
Kudos to all of the student musicians and directors who worked so very hard!
Our AFJROTC Drill Team had a great end to their season, winning State! GHS AFJROTC drill team cadets won 1st Place Grand Champions at Alhambra High School; also known as the "State Drill Meet." See below for details!
Kudos to our cadets and the outstanding leadership of Major Heim and Sgt. Kemp!
Thank you to our GHS Performing Arts department for an outstanding production of The Music Man! The performance ran from April 4-6. The kids did an amazing job and our teachers in that department are first-rate, period.
Thank you to Gilbert's Central Christian Church for their hard work this past weekend in spreading out the rock and gravel by the front entrance here at GHS. It really spruced up the curb appeal of the campus and we appreciate it!
Some upcoming events:
Parade Principals from the London New Year's Day Parade will be on campus on Tuesday, April 23, at 10am to officially invite the Gilbert Tiger Marching Pride to the LNYDP 2020! This will be our second trip, as our students were part of the LNYDP 2014, as well. The kids are super excited and we have sent out invitations to everyone to attend!
On Monday, April 15, 2019 at 6pm GHS held an informational night for our current 9th graders on campus to determine their interest in the forthcoming International Baccalaureate program. We are excited to share our progress with our parents and students! Doors open to the program and classes will start in the 20-21 school year (when the current 9th graders are in 11th grade).
Prom! Kudos to our outstanding Student Council for their hard work in organizing the Prom this past Saturday, April 13, 2019, from 8pm to 11pm. This year's event took place at Soho63, which is located in downtown Chandler.
Thank you everyone! Next month is of course even more busy as we move toward graduation! Work hard, Tigers, stay focused and seniors, enjoy these last weeks as you finish strong!
Sincerely,
Christopher Stroud

The Extraordinary Cast of The Music Man
Through the past few months, these students have worked tirelessly to bring this classic piece of Americana musical history to the Gilbert High School stage. The students overcame seemingly insurmountable challenges, and worked so hard to learn new skills and develop wonderful talents, solely to bring joy and fun to others. It’s been quite a remarkable journey for everyone involved! We are so proud of our GHS students and our entire team that helped make Theatre magic! Thank you to everyone who came out to support our Performing Arts Department!

Parking Lot Procedures
Parents, please remember to use the parent drop-off loop in the morning and after school. Please do not drop off or pick up in the faculty lot on the west side of campus as this is used by students who walk and for bus transportation purposes. For everyone’s safety, please use the loop between campus and Elliot Road just north of the building.
As a note of caution to all of our campus community, please know that Gilbert Police will at some point do a traffic enforcement sweep on Elliot Road. We ask everyone to always drive safe and practice patience.
We appreciate everyone’s commitment to the safety of our students!

Athletics Information
In order to try out for an athletic team at Gilbert High School, students must have completed the online athletic registration at www.RegisterMyAthlete.com. The requirements include completion of the 2018-2019 Annual Pre-participation Physical Evaluation packet (which needs to be cleared and signed by a doctor); the Brain Book Concussion Course (for first-time high school sport enrollment); and online documents, e-signed by parent/guardian and student. Additionally, an athletic fee of $100.00 is required for each sport (due after try outs and before regular competition season starts). There may be additional fees required per sport. Ask the coach for further details.
Due to many year-round sports, we encourage parents to plan on the completion of the online registration and AIA physical forms before the school year starts, or as soon as possible. We also request this so there is no added delay in an athlete being able to participate in our interscholastic athletic programs. Please log on to www.RegisterMyAthlete.com to register your child. For any questions concerning Athletics, please contact our office at (480) 497-0177, ext. 169.
