Shabbat Shalom!

In the News...

Sha'arei Orah is looking for new committee members!

Hospitality

As Sha'arei Orah continues to grow, our goal is to ensure that new members, those interested in learning more about our community, and visitors are warmly welcomed. The Hospitality Committee will work as a behind the scenes shadchan to ensure that new members and visitors are integrated into our community.

Please contact Roseanne Lesack if you would like to join the Hospitality Committee.

Programming

The Programming Committee exists to create opportunities for social programming for Sha'arei Orah. We have planned events like poker nights and barbecues as well as holiday themed activities like the annual Hannukah party and Purim Seudah. If you want to help make Sha'arei Orah a fun and welcoming place, this is a great way to get involved!

Please contact Avi Pesis if you would like to join the Programming Committee.

Youth

The Youth Committee runs the Shabbat kids' programming at Sha'arei Orah. This includes assisting with development of a Shabbat morning curriculum and training youth leaders.

Please contact Susie Ratner if you would like to join the Youth Committee.

Below is just a snippet of what we have in store for 5783, but only with your support!

  • Learning as a community on a more regular basis, and with the help of internal and external experts. Our newly formed Adult Education Committee has exciting plans for the monthly scholar series, scholars in residence, and more!

  • Childcare is a new addition as of the last couple months for our community. Prior to this, we'd never had consistent childcare for any ages. We are blessed with many young children and we are so happy to be able to start offering some programming.

  • Holidays continue to provide a meaningful opportunity for spiritual and social connection. We look forward to a Channukah party, Tu B'shvat celebrations, Purim programming, and much more!

  • Davening of course is central to what we do in Sha'arei Orah. Whether it is on a weekly basis or our wonderful holiday and high holiday tefillot, we will continue to provide a space for meaningful prayer for our community

To continue providing vibrant Torah, davening and social events, we need your support.

Sha’arei Orah membership continues to be set at an affordable rate so everyone can invest in our community. To achieve our goals of financial stability, we encourage everyone to give generously. Please consider going above and beyond the $700 membership dues. Suggested donation amounts are Founder ($2,500), Pillar ($1,800), Builder ($1,000) or Guardian ($750). Of course, financial circumstances should not be an obstacle to membership for anyone. Please reach out to a member of the Board to make alternate membership arrangements.

We now accept Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) from Fidelity Charitable and Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. If you prefer to use this payment method, contact Isaac Binkovitz (treasurer@shaareiorah.org).

Double your impact! If your employer offers a matching gift program, consider asking if your donation to Sha'arei Orah can be matched. Matching gift programs are a form of corporate philanthropy, where businesses match the donations their employees make to charitable organizations.

Thank you!

UPDATED COVID POLICY (as of 3/4/2022)

In accordance with current conditions and trends, updated guidance from the CDC, and newly relaxed protocols at Adath, the Board has decided to drop the mask requirement for attendance at Sha'arei Orah, beginning this Shabbat (see exceptions below). We know that some members of our community may feel more comfortable by continuing to wear a mask, and we encourage those individuals to continue doing so. We also continue to ask everyone to respect the sensitivities of others and to accommodate masked individuals who prefer to sit next to other masked individuals. We certainly hope that the pandemic conditions continue to improve, however, the Board may reinstate a mask requirement or other measures in the future as circumstances and guidance warrant.

As before, the following policies remain in place:

- All individuals who are eligible for the Covid vaccine must be fully vaccinated.

- If you are experiencing symptoms, or tested positive for Covid within the prior 5 days, you should not attend.

- If you tested positive for Covid between 5 and 10 days ago, you may attend but must wear a mask.

- If you had direct contact with someone else who tested positive for Covid during the prior 10 days, you may attend but must wear a mask.

Misheberach List

If you would like the gabbai to quietly recite the name of a loved one who is ill during the misheberach l'cholim, please fill out this short form. If you have any questions, please contact gabbai@shaareiorah.org.

Discretionary Fund

We are pleased to let you know that Sha'arei Orah, as a result of the efforts of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, now has a modest emergency fund to help relieve financial distress caused by COVID-19. The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia is leading many Emergency Response efforts for our community. They generously created a grant to our shul's Discretionary Fund to support those of us in need. Additional information about the Fund can be found here.

These funds are intended to help those in need of food, medical assistance, rent/mortgage payments and/or medical expenses. If you are in need of assistance, or have any questions, please reach out to Daniel Rabin and we will work to help as much as we are able. Your conversations will remain in the strictest of confidence.

May we all have a year of health, happiness, and prosperity.
