Quest Overview
- In this quest, you will learn about Danielson component 2A.
- You will read about the Danielson component 2A (understanding what it is, why it is important, what the elements are embedded within the component, and ways you can show it in your digital portfolio).
- The explore part of this quest you will complete a write up for Component 2A in your digital portfolio. To document your learning, you will take a screenshot of your write up in your digital portfolio and upload it to My GCC.
- The synthesis part of the quest is to tweet out a connection between this component and ISTE, growth mindset, SAMR, another education class, or your future classroom. Upload a screenshot of your tweet to My GCC.
- This Quest should take you no more than two hours to complete at most.

What is Component 2A?
- This component is all about creating an effective and efficient classroom environment for both students and teacher.
- Teachers will gain respect and the students will enjoy learning.
- Research has shown that when students are immersed in positive classroom environments, they flourish.
Why do we need to know about component 2A?
- Component 2A is important, because:
- Teaching depends upon the relationships between people.
- We need to manage, support, help maintain, & at times initiate relationships with and among students in a positive manner.
- We must be aware of both our verbal and nonverbal communication in the classroom.
- All students must feel valued and safe.
- We must encourage risk taking in the classroom.
- Teaching depends upon the relationships between people.
Elements
Teacher interaction with students
- Teacher interactions with students need to demonstrate real and genuine respect.
- When teaching, it is important to show that you care for the students.
- We must have a passion for what we are teaching. Because. students will pick up on that passion.
- Students have a sense of trust with the teacher and at times provide sensitive information to the teacher about his/her personal life.
Student interaction with other students
- Students care for one another and watch out for each other.
- Students respect each other in a genuine and positive manner.
Possible artifacts
Artifacts for component 2A could include the following:
- Demonstrate evidence of positive and meaningful interactions with students. For example, "caught you being good" notes or phone calls home that are positive
- Demonstration of positive relationships with each other.
