Weekly Update- August 23, 2019
Week at a Glance
Reading- We started our first read aloud book, Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library. Students are loving it so far. We even introduced our book by doing our own "escape room" to find it.
Writing- We worked on setting up procedures for writers workshop and have been building our writing stamina. We are up to 30 minutes or writing without stopping or getting tired. Our first writing unit will focus on Informational text.
Math- We have started unit 1 which is a review from last year. This week we took a look at our addition table and reviewed some strategies we can use to solve addition problems.
Science/Social Studies- The beginning of the year is always full of community building, which ties into our social studies standards. We also started our Classroom Economy system this week, which you will be hearing more about.

Message from the PTO
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! We are sure you are excited about getting to know your child's new teacher and classmates! In efforts to help facilitate communication between families, the PTO is organizing a free class directory. This year, we have created an easily accessible online form that can be accessed here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe35nrjAZqIJE_zc_UZFKU1pOh8Kx_GZXlBaHp_puSsfpe-mw/viewform?usp=sf_link . If you choose to participate, please complete the form by September 6th and your contact information will be included in a classroom directory for your child's class only. We plan to distribute the classroom directories by the end of September. As a reminder per the school handbook, birthday invitations may not be sent to school. Participation in the classroom directory is completely optional. We are hoping this creates a sense of community among the families in each classroom and provides a better way for parents to connect with one another. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions via email: napspto@napls.us.
Looking forward to a great year together!
