Emotional Management in November
During November we will be teaching Emotional Management through our Second Step curriculum. Students will learn different strategies to handle different emotions. Parents can help support by talking with their children about ways they can handle their emotions. See the image for ideas of what to discuss with your child.
Community Harvest Food Drive
Our 4th and 5th grade Wildcat Council is supporting the Annual Community Harvest Food Drive this year! Please read the information below along with the suggested donations. Your student can bring in any of the suggested donations to their classrooms between Nov. 1st and Nov. 18th. Our Wildcat Council will collect it from the classrooms each day.
West Elementary is proud to support the Crystal Lake Food Pantry and looks forward to participating in the 32nd annual Community Harvest Food Drive. Last year, District 47 schools donated 7,723 pounds of food, which equates to nearly 6,500 meals! See this year’s flyer for most wanted food and household items. Monetary donations are also appreciated; checks can be made payable to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. Donations will be accepted until Friday, November 18.

Students write letters that need to be delivered to other classrooms. Help students run a school mail service!
Book Mobile:
Help organize books on our mobile book cart and travel to different classrooms to help children pick out a book.
Tap Room:
Help fulfill teacher requests for laminating, copying, sharpening pencils, and other tasks to help prepare for their classroom activities.
Classroom Party Volunteer Spots are NOW Open!
Click on this link and choose between Winter or Valentine's Day to volunteer. Please read the descriptions for Party Planner/Party Volunteer and the Party Packet before signing up. Reminder: In order for all to have a chance to help with parties, we kindly ask you sign up for one party slot per classroom. As we get closer to an event and a class is still in need of volunteers, we will communicate the opportunity to sign up for an additional party. In addition, please fill out this volunteer procedure form.
