October 2019: Parent Newsletter
Can you believe we've already reached the end of our first 6 weeks? It has been fast and fun. So many amazing things happening at Rawlinson on a daily basis. The energy is great; the kids are engaged in learning, and I have been pleased with the level of rigor and success I have seen in the classroom.
The end of this first grading period will be Friday, October 4th. The first six weeks always flies by, so in an effort to help students navigate their time, we've announced the approaching deadline for a couple of weeks. We've been pleased with the amount of students taking the opportunity to relearn or redo material during academic coaching/tutoring times.
The month of October will be an exciting one at Rawlinson. There are multiple ways to get connected and stay involved this month. Please mark your calendars for two special events you won't want to miss.
Monday, October 7th- Power Through Middle School
Tuesday, October 22- "Be Legendary" Fall Family Night
(see flyers below for more information)
Also, we have updated our campus calendar, and it is now available by clicking the button below that reads: Click here for the Campus Calendar.
Hope to see you very soon at the many engaging events we have in store.

Join us on Monday, October 7th as we Power Through Middle School!
You are invited to attend our Power Through Middle School night created to help bridge the gap between home & school communication in a variety of ways. There will be a PTA meeting beginning at 5:30 in the cafeteria and all sessions begin promptly at 6:00 PM.
We understand that parents & their children have different needs; therefore, we have designed the night around choice. You may choose three sessions to attend. There will be six sessions to choose from.
Sessions include:
High School Credit & the Middle School student
This session is designed to give parents more clarity around advanced academics, options and pathways in middle school and how these translate into high school.

This session encompasses Cyber-safety & includes Social Media & Middle Schoolers, Internet Predators and Identity theft.
The Digital Parent: HAC-Home Access Center, Google Classroom & Library Resources
Our Digital Parent session includes support with the Home Access Center, resources your child has available in and online at the RMS library, and understanding how assignments are used in Google Classroom.
Dyslexia in Middle School
Our Dyslexia session will help parents and students understand what support looks like in middle school, discussions around how we meet student needs, and how they can learn to advocate & navigate in middle school.
AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination)
This session will introduce what the AVID track can mean for your child. AVID drives student success through engaging, rigorous, and student-centered learning environments. Explore how AVID will help your child be successful in middle school.
Connecting and Belonging
This session is created to help parents and students understand the ever-changing dynamics of middle school relationships. These changes in friendships, frenemies and struggling to connect are normal and even necessary for their social-emotional development.

Patriot Power!
Patriot POWER is a unified set of expectations embedded throughout our school's culture. It was created over a span of 5 months starting last school year. A focus group was brought together, and an opportunity was presented. This team worked tirelessly to understand the core values and expectations we believe a Rawlinson Patriot embodies.
We were over the moon to unveil Patriot POWER to our students, and they have embraced it beyond our expectations. It really has been a wonderful new year.
This first six weeks, we have focused on the "P" in power which is Purpose.
Examples:
--What does your work look like when you do it with purpose?
--Be purposeful and intentional about your words and your actions.
Teachers have recognized students doing things with intention and purpose and have given out Power Coupons which are collected and placed in a weekly drawing.
This 2nd six weeks, we will focus on the "O" in Power which stands for Ownership.
To continue the conversations at home, you may want to ask them what their favorite quote for the week was or why something they learned about "Ownership" resonated with them.
We will continue our Patriot POWER lessons, initiatives, awards and incentives throughout the school year. As always, thank you for your support.
