Hello from the principal's desk!
Dec 13, 2017
Hello from Book Fair central! Please check out our weekly video from last week below. Our video featured none other than the one and only Book Man, and took a long look at our Book Fair. I hope you enjoy the fine camera angles provided by ME! Mr. Lundholm and I try to have a good time... let us know if you want to join us in a video some time!
Please also don't forget to listen to our podcasts! We have a running podcast we try to update weekly featuring interviews with kids, teachers, etc. You can find our podcast here. The interview with Mr. Lundholm (our first) has 138 listens so far!
I am super thrilled to announce that our A/V update has started in our MPR. We are getting 6 (maybe 8?) new speakers installed around the cafeteria and a new mounted projector, all with easy wall access. Our next movie night is going to ROCK! I am really looking forward to the upgrades, our kids and staff deserve it!
Winter Craft night is this Friday, at 6:15 and the Book Fair is open until 8:30 that night! We hope you can come to both, it should be fun. We are doing a cookie exchange, so bring some goodies to share!
Please take our Google survey to be entered into a chance to win a special prize for your child(ren) to see if you REALLY reviewed my newsletter. It will only take a minute!

STEAM Studio
We are entering Unit 4 in STEAM and will be focusing on winter themes to prepare for the coming break! In PS-1st grades we are making snowflakes by studying the anatomy of snow crystals, how they form, and creating mathematical symmetry in our own flakes with found materials. In 2nd-3rd grades, we will be looking at the engineering process behind building igloos and create elaborate igloos with common kitchen materials. 4th-5th graders will be making SLIME!! It is fun to experiment and test different recipes so students will be learning how to read and follow a specific recipe to develop math measurement knowledge that goes along with cooking and chemistry fun. On the donations front, a HUGE THANK YOU to the Colcord family (Avery/3d gr. & Lily/TK) for donating wipes to the Studio AND to the Record Family (Danny/3rd & Lily/K) for donating playing cards, stickers, LEGOS, and more to the Studio. There was also an anonymous and generous donation of many tools and hardware from an amazing RB citizen. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT and keep those donations coming J!!!

Hello from the Ruby Bridges PTA
Here's some not so good news: The PTA budgeted earning $7500 at the Fun A Thon. To date, our donations are at $4,400. If we don't hit our target number we will have to do some re-evaluating of programs we can fund for the coming school year. For example, the PTA reimburses teachers up to $150 for supplies they buy for the classroom. This is a drop in the bucket of what teachers actually pay out of pocket. Unfortunately if we don't hit our fundraising goals, this small amount may be cut even further.
Please consider making a donation to the Ruby Bridges PTA before the end of the calendar year! We need your help!
