Introducing A Great Way to Learn About What We Do...and What We Dream Of Doing:
I’m pleased to announce our School Accountability Committee’s new parent-friendly series of talks. In each Get To Know Our Teacher events, we are showcasing a special program your child participates in as well as a few of the special people who work with your child/children every day...their classroom teachers. All talks are of interest to all parents no matter what grade their child!
Also, during these talks, we’ll engage in a dream building with parents in which we explore what might be possible for the future of each program in our building. Built around the question “What would your program look like if the current budget were doubled? What impact would that have on the learning of our current and future students?” We seek to uncover hidden obstacles, unknown challenges, and new ways to think about teaching and learning. Sometimes more money helps learning, sometimes it doesn’t. This conversation is our way of engaging stakeholders in a thoughtful exploration of what is and what might be.
Our first in the series Get to Know Your Teacher is on our research-based Hill Springs Approach to Math and Reading Intervention. Designed to address the needs of the most struggling students in reading and math, this approach has benefits for all learners as well. During this conversation, our two featured speakers, Staci Christensen and Heather Kenyon will answer these questions and any you bring to the table!
Hill Springs Math and Reading:
1. Our role in your children's learning
2. Overview of Hill Springs
3. How it is used in your child's classrooms
4. Most valuable component for our students
5. How we will know it is working
6. What is next?
The following is our schedule for subsequent Get to Know Your Teacher nights!
November 27: Pre-K, Kindergarten, Strings, and the UPE Exceptional Scholars (YES) programs.
January 29: First Grade, 2nd Grade, and Spanish programs.
February 26: 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, Physical Education, and our new Random Acts of Kindness program.
April 30: 5th Grade, 6th Grade (The Mountain Academy) and the UPES Art programs.
Come join us for fun and conversation!
