Update from the Principal
Greetings Talley Street Community!
We have almost made it to the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. It was great seeing so many of our students Wednesday at the parades. I am excited for the students to have an opportunity to see their teachers virtually today during the “Meet and Greets!” The teachers have worked very hard to prepare for Monday. We are excited to get started! Below is some information that may be helpful before next week. Thank you all for your support during this time! Have a great weekend! Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
Billy Heaton
Principal
Material & Chromebook Pickup
Anyone who was unable to pick up curriculum materials and a Chromebook (if needed) this week, please reach out to Mr. Heaton to schedule an appointment to come to the school and pick up those items. Mr. Heaton’s email is bheaton@csdecatur.net.
Virtual Learning Assessment Plan
For students in grades 3-5, the iReady Assessment will be administered in the fall for both reading and math. The testing window will open August 31st and close September 18th. More details will be coming soon.
Wellness Wednesday
Wellness Wednesday is meant to support social and emotional learning. Each Wednesday, students are required to attend a SEE Learning lesson. The lesson each week is “live.” If students are unable to attend the live session, the district will record a presentation that will be posted after the live session for students to watch. Students will have up to two days to watch the video and complete the required exit ticket or activity. This will demonstrate attendance. The times for the lessons will be sent out with the grade level schedules.
On the grade level schedules that were sent out, Art, Music, P.E. and Spanish were also listed along with the SEE Learning lesson. These are optional and NOT required. They are part of the school-based wellness activities. The school district will also be sending optional wellness activities each week for students and their parents. If you have any questions about Wellness Wednesday, please email Mr. Heaton at bheaton@csdecatur.net.
Free and Reduced Lunch Application Information
We are promoting CONTACTLESS options this year. Parents are encouraged to use the Parent Portal to complete their free and reduced lunch applications instead of paper.
A reminder from CSD Nutrition: The Free and Reduced Priced Meal Application must be filled out each school year. Even if you filled one out in the spring, you will need to fill out a new one for the upcoming school year. The online application for 2020-2021 is now available in the Parent Portal. You only need to complete one application per household. Note that those eligible for free and reduced priced meals may be able to access other types of public assistance or services that may be available during this pandemic.
Meet the Talley Street Specials and Intervention Teachers
Please take some time to watch the videos from our specials and intervention teachers. Since they are not a part of the virtual meet and greets in the classrooms, we wanted to provide an opportunity for our school community to get to know them!
