Parent STAR News
Welcome Back to School
We Missed You!
We were so grateful to see all of your children on Monday as we began another school year here at Silver Lake. I don't know if you have watched the news recently, but I wanted to share a news story that I saw this week. A beloved principal at a Grand Prairie high school was recently diagnosed with cancer. As I know, this type of diagnosis makes you reflect on truly what is important. I was amazed at his response when asked about what his final message would be to his students. His response "Treat each other with kindness, and be respectful". So in, what could be his last weeks and months of life, he reminds us of the importance of two very simple skills that as parents and educators that we need to teach our children. Kindness. Respect.
As teachers and school leaders we have big dreams and goals for ALL of our students, but teaching these two critical skills are truly at the top of our list. So as we begin the year and prepare to kick off Rachel's Challenge later in September, these two words will be sprinkled over everything that we teach and reinforce.
I am so blessed to work at Silver Lake and in GCISD and it is our honor to serve your children another year. If you would like to see the story that I referred to, I have copied the link below. Happy 2017-18 School Year!!!

JUST A REMINDER... AUCTION WINNER PARKING SPOTS
Parents please remember that our two parking spots that are designated with "Reserved for Auction Winner" signs are still being used by the auction winners. These spots were purchased during last year's Fall Festival at the Silent Auction and they have access to them until the next Silent Auction. Don't miss your chance to make a bid during this year's Silent Auction if you wish to have access to this special parking.
