Band First Aid Pain Relievers
In light of the fentanyl epidemic affecting our community, the Band Aid supply boxes will no longer contain pain reliever, allergy medicine, or any other type of over the counter medications. In addition, please remind your students not to take from or give pills to any other students.
Inspection -"Show hair": Band
To pass inspection, hair must be up in sock bun (males and females). See video and images below.
Hair should first be wet, use gel, style slick; no loose hairs – use bobby pins if needed.
If your hair is too long but not long enough to put up in a bun, then use bobby pins or small braids
Hair CANNOT be hanging in your face. The inspection lists can be found on our website FAQ section: What is required to pass inspection?
Show hair supplies!
Thank you to band parent, Vanessa Petrea and flute section member, Addie Petrea, for stocking and organizing the hair supplies currently stored in the dressing rooms. The Petrea’s generously donated this first stock of hair supplies.
However, we will need our band and guard community to help upkeep the inventory! Please help by sending any of the following to the band hall:
Small water bottle
- Hair gel
- Hair spray
- Bobby pins
- Small clear rubber bands
- Nail polish remover
- Cotton balls

4th ANNUAL JAGUAR JOG FUNDRAISER!
Each year, the Jaguar Band Boosters host the Jaguar Jog. It is an important fundraiser for our program and for our journey to Grand Nationals in Indianapolis in November! Please register and share with others! Please also shared the pdf below with businesses that might want to sponsor and to advertise at this well-attended community event that has had over 250 participants in past years!
Private Music Lessons
Much of the success of the Johnson Jaguar Band can be traced back to our students’ high-quality individual musicianship. That individual musicianship is developed not only during daily band class and at-home practice but through our incredible Private Lesson Program.
The band staff has worked diligently to assemble the finest local professionals on each and every instrument to deliver 1-on-1 lessons to our students who enroll in the program! Lessons occur on campus before, during, and after school. Although not required, lessons are highly encouraged. Private lessons are not for remediation but rather enrichment!
Students are encouraged to reach out directly to an instructor to sign up and schedule lessons.

From the director
Another week of firsts successfully completed! This week we saw our first football game; our first pre-game inspection; our first truck and bus load; our first time on turf without the marching grid; and our first public marching performance!! Our students handled all of these firsts extraordinarily well!! We knew there would be a few hiccups and hurdles to navigate, and the students handled them incredibly well! These were simple things like wrong socks, misplaced water jug and no flip folder. Now that we have our first game under our belts, let’s continue to work on streamlining the process and reducing the number of hurdles. Planning ahead and having a checklist is a great way to be even better prepared for this coming week!
Looking forward to this week, we have our first away game! We will be traveling to Lake Belton High School which is our furthest away football game for the entire season. We will be taking Charter Buses to this game! This means our bus assignments will be different this week due to the number of passengers each hold. We can also place our instruments under the bus giving everyone more room above. Be on the lookout this week for new bus lists posted in the Band Hall and for the our weekly Game Day Schedule which will provide departure times, return times and location address.
As we are looking ahead to Fridays game we also want to take a quick peek at the following week's calendar. There is no school or practice on Labor Day, which is Monday, September 5. That 5 - 8 p.m. evening practice has been shifted to Wednesday that week. That means we have practice on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Please take a close look at the calendar and make any accommodation plans now.
This week we will continue our regular rehearsal schedule. Please refer to the calendar for questions about dates or times. We will focus on putting the remainder of the show to the field and continue to add and refine choreography, drill and music!
Before we wrap up we want to thank our incredible Jaguar Band Boosters for everything they do including loading the two trailers with equipment, helping get equipment onto the field, providing the meal plan for our students on game day and for the AWESOME new storage units that were delivered and painted this weekend!!
We are incredibly blessed to have such wonderful parents!! If you have not already gotten involved please go to www.JohnsonBands.com and follow the links to volunteer!! Don’t let these times go by without getting involved! The few years of High School will fly by and getting involved now is a great way to be a part of your student's life in an awesome activity and create wonderful memories that will last a lifetime!
Let’s have a great week, and as we end each newsletter, “It’s A Great Day To Be A Jaguar”!
The Beat--A Weekly Update for Percussion-Specific Information
Well that was fun! Our first full week of rehearsals and a football game! The students have been working hard learning the rest of the show all while learning tons of changes. We will continue to push these next 3 weeks to be prepared for our first competition of the year. Thunder in the Hills Percussion Invitational at Dripping Springs HS. Look for an itinerary this week with lots of info and schedule. This coming week we have our first away game and we can’t wait to show the Lake Belton folks what’s been going on over here at MGJ! Parents please start monitoring your students grades. The six week grade check is coming up quick and that determines eligibility for the majority of the marching season. Please help us make sure your student is passing. WE NEED EVERYONE TO PASS! Looking forward to a great week!

Quotes for a Cause
George Torres Farmers Insurance has partnered with to provide a unique opportunity to
raise money to support the JHS Band by requesting your free, no-obligation insurance quote! The goal is to raise money for the band and to give families peace of mind that they are paying a reasonable amount when it comes to insurance. His agency specializes in reducing student driver cost on family auto insurance. His agency will donate $10 to the JHS Band for each family that completes the attached quick survey. Your information will solely be utilized for a one-time, no-obligation quote and will be deleted once completed. There is no cap on how many families can participate in this opportunity but you must be over 18 years of age to receive a quote. Less than 1 minute to complete the survey could add up to an immeasurable amount of support for JHS Band. Plus, you might even save a lot on your insurance! Act quickly and share - the survey and this opportunity will only last through the Jaguar Jog on September 17th!
