FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
We have several wonderful events coming up soon. Please review the upcoming events for both the Cougar Council and the PTO. Also, do not forget to read this week's Cougar News. (See link below)
Finally, it is that time of year again to nominate an AMAZING educator!! Information from the district has been shared on the website and on Friday Folders. This is a great time to think about that special teacher/educator who goes above and beyond to take great care of your children. Parents or students can write a letter in support of this person! All letters will be shared with staff, regardless if they are selected as this year's finalist. Every word means so much! PLEASE take a moment to let our teachers know how much you care!
Thank you for your support and have a great weekend!
Mrs. Capes :)
COUGAR COUNCIL - UPDATES
- The Cougar Council is running a special service project to support Leukemia. This program, called "Pennies for Pasta", is sponsored by Olive Garden. The class who raises the most money for this great cause will win a catered lunch from Olive Garden. Thank you to all of those who have already donated! We have already raised $1,436.08 and with a week to go, I know that we will surpass our goal of $2000.00. The stories of children sharing their purpose for donating have been amazing. Thank you, Caring Cougars!!!
COUGAR SPIRIT DAY - FUNDRAISER
- "Red Carpet Day" is Friday, February 14th! This Cougar Spirit Day is for students to dress up and have a day of feeling like a superstar! We are asking all students who participate to donate $1 towards the Cougar Council. This money will be used to purchase a gift at the end of the year for the school.

Five Ways to Beat a Cold
- Wash your hands often. Most colds are transmitted through indirect physical contact.
- Drink plenty of fluids. It helps flush germs from your body.
- Get a good night’s sleep. This keeps your immune cells powered up.
- Keep at least three feet away from coughers and sneezers. This helps avoid contact with airborne droplets, which may make you sick.
- Have chicken soup. Any warm fluids can help relieve cold symptoms and act as an expectorant.
Sleep
School age children need 10-12 hours of a sleep a night. Lack of sleep can cause irritable or hyper types of behavior and may make it more difficult for kids to pay attention in school. It is important to have a consistent bedtime. No matter what your child’s age, establish a bedtime routine that encourages good sleep habits. These tips can help ease kids into a good night’s sleep:
- Power down. Turn off electronics at least one hour before bedtime. If your child has a TV in their room, consider removing it. Research shows that children who have a TV in their room tend to sleep less.
- Create a calming routine. Winding down each night with the same routine signals that it is time for sleep.
- Stick to a bedtime. Alert your child a half hour and 10 minutes beforehand.
