Safety Concern with Student's Jaywalking
This week, the city opened up the new pump track across the street from DMS. As you can imagine, students are excited and already enjoying time over there before and after school. We are happy our students are having fun at the new park and getting additional energy out, as do many of our parents are, however, we are now noticing many students beginning to Jaywalk across General Kearney. Cars drive fast down this street and not using the crosswalk at the school is very dangerous. Please speak with your child about using the crosswalk and following safety guidelines. Thank you for your support.

***REMINDER 8th Graders: CHS AVID applications due ***
Are you interested in going to a 4-year college after high school?
AVID is a college and career readiness program that focuses on preparing students to be successful in whichever post-secondary education path they choose (College/Career/Military). The primary focus of CHS AVID is preparation for a four-year university education, however, we understand the value of preparing students for a variety of post-secondary opportunities. As a result, CHS AVID also includes comprehensive education on trade/tech and military options. The CHS AVID program is incredibly successful with between 95% and 100% of AVID Seniors receiving four-year college acceptance.
Friendly reminder, if you are an 8th grader interested in CHS AVID, be sure to apply. The deadline to apply for CHS AVID is this Friday, February 18th. You can find the application google link on your Science 8 teacher's Canvas website or click HERE (Links to an external site.). More information is attached below.
If you have additional questions, please contact your school counselor. You can also directly contact Joe Ruzzamenti, CHS AVID Coordinator if you have any specific questions at ruzzamenti@tvusd.us ."
