She became the first woman working at the U.S Patons office as a clerk. She wanted to help with the war any way she could and by working here, she relieved two men of this job so that they may fight.
She became the founder of the American Red Cross which provided disaster relief, emergency resistance, and opportunities for educational advancement.

Propaganda was used to persuade women to join the war effort by becoming nurses on the battlefield.
