MoB (Matters of Business)
Edgewood's Weekly Staff Update for the week of 6/3-6/7
We are committed to the journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learner and a caring, contributing citizen.
Learning Notes
As educators, we tend to look forward. Forward to the next thing students need to learn, forward to our next goals, forward to the next year. But when you step back, it's pretty remarkable to look at the ground we've covered in the past few years.
- We began implementing Reader's Workshop 4 years ago. Remember when it felt impossible to make a lesson mini?
- We went through a 4 million dollar renovation (Remember packing? And unpacking?)
- We've used the 11 principles of character to refine and develop our programming, and we've become a National School of Character.
- We've welcomed children with more significant needs than had historically attended EW, and we've learned a lot about how to meet their needs.
- As a school, we've moved out of the "beginning stages" of being a professional learning community, and are working to develop and sustain the work of high-performing teams.
- We've learned about math running records and number talks and accountable talk and G21 and self-directed learning...
In short, we've covered a lot of ground. So, at the end of this year, I encourage you to take a moment to stand on the peak and look back at the journey you've taken.
If you need a few more feel-good nudges, here are some quotes from our Parent Survey:
- My grand daughter has been going to Edgewood since K4 and has always been treated excellent by the faculty and students. The faculty has always been warm and open to all my concerns and always made me a part of my grand daughter's education.
- Educators have been responsive to my concerns. I appreciate that.
- We've had some unique challenges and teachers have been great in developing a plan to motivate our student.
- Every day they truly go above and beyond to make sure my child becomes a success.
And here are some from our Student Survey (Grades 3-5), when asked what they liked about our school:
- I like speech, math, tiger time, recess and also writing.
- I like my friends and I like learning.
- I like that when someone gets hurt some other people who is around them tells the teacher or tries to make them feel better.
- I love that this school is one of the safest places I know. And I love that every teacher is caring and friendly.
- We are respectful
- That the teachers always give second chances. Also that the teachers always find a different way to teach us if we don't understand the first or second way.
- It is a family at Edgewood. Also, you get to know everyone
- The teachers
Now, are there also ideas of things we can do better? Of course. But today, look over your shoulder and smile at the distance you've covered.
TCB (Taking Care of Business)
- I encourage you to consider one of the Dylan Williams days (August 12th and 13th) if your schedule allows. He is THE top name on assessment in education. Remember the cool video Carrie showed on assessment that makes you think last fall? That was Dylan William. He's a big deal, and it's amazing that our district has him for us! Patrice Ball sent an email with info on registering. It's due Tuesday 6/4.
- HERE is the BOY schedule.
- A reminder that All of the UBD modules should be complete by the end of the school year. There are 6 modules.
- In the Edgewood All Team Drive, you'll find a template to fill out for summer POs. Holly will place POs over the summer.
- Holly emailed out the supply list to edit. Please have revisions in by Tuesday. We'll send home the next grade's supply list with report cards on the last day.
- Contracts with updated salaries will be out on Monday. This or the one out earlier this month must be returned by 6/17. You'll be paid at the higher rate.
